Call the Midwife star's past as Emmerdale villain and British TV icon

Stephen McGann has been a part of the Call the Midwife cast since the show first began in 2012, playing the role of Dr. Patrick Turner, but many fans won't know about his Emmerdale past

Stephen McGann, best known for his role as Dr. Patrick Turner in Call the Midwife, also had a stint on Emmerdale during the 1990s, where he played a character full of drama.

The 61-year-old actor has played the beloved Dr. Turner on the popular BBC period drama since its inception in 2012. However, before stepping into the shoes of the compassionate GP in 1960s Poplar, Stephen was a soap star, playing the part of love cheat Sean Reynolds in Emmerdale.

The Reynolds family certainly made an impact when they first arrived in the Dales in 1999. Sean initially appeared with his wife Angie (Freya Copeland), their son Marc (Anthony Lewis), and daughter Ollie (Vicky Binns).

They were later joined by Sean's father Len (Peter Martin) after the off-screen demise of his mother Eileen.

After clashing with Chris Tate (Peter Amory) and Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley), Sean quickly made a few adversaries in the village, leading to plenty of drama, reports the Mirror.

In one thrilling scene, Sean becomes furious when he sees Cain enjoying a pint outside The Woolpack and violently confronts him with a punch to the face.

Zak Dingle (Steve Halliwell) attempts to restrain Sean as Sam Dingle (James Hooton) reveals that his brother Cain has been having an affair with Angie Reynolds.

In another scene, Sean lashes out at Richie Carter (Glenn Lamont) after accusing him of also having an affair with his wife upon seeing them in a romantic embrace.

The owner of the haulage firm eventually separated from his wife Angie, with Sean being the catalyst due to an affair with Lady Tara Thornfield (Anna Brecon). Despite their efforts to resist for the sake of his children Marc and Ollie, Sean and Tara succumbed to their mutual attraction and decided to leave the Dales together to start a new life in Chester.

Stephen's last appearance as Sean Reynolds was in January 2002.

Stephen McGann will reprise his role as Dr. Turner in the upcoming episode of Call the Midwife on Christmas Day.
