Strictly Come Dancing's Wynne Evans shares rare insight into relationship after 'dating site ban'

Strictly Come Dancing star Wynne Evans has given a rare glimpse into his love life with girlfriend Liz Brookes, revealing he was “banned” from a dating app.

Wynne, best known for his time as the Go.Compare man, has been romantically involved with fitness fanatic Liz, 50, since the start of the year. And the 52-year-old opera singer revealed Liz helps him keep up his exercise routine.

Having lost seven stone since his Go.Compare days, Wynne says he harboured dreams of completing a parkrun - a weekly 5k event - before they “pack everything away”. He says he exercises alongside his partner, something that makes him feel “better”.

On the Starting Line podcast with Rich Leigh, he said: “I go out running with my girlfriend and stuff and I feel much better for it. I will go out with her.”

Wynne revealed he met Liz “at an event”. He says he tried online dating before the pair met, but was banned for an obscure reason.

He continued: “I should have done it online. But I once got banned for impersonating myself on a dating website.

“They were like ‘no, you’re impersonating a celebrity’ and I was like ‘yeah, I need to get a date as well’. So dating has been so weird.”

Wynne, who also presents a show on BBC Radio Wales, says he was approved for an account on celebrity dating website Raya, but he confesses it “wasn’t for him”.

Before meeting Liz, he says he “went on a lot of dates” but found it an “interesting experience” due to his time as the Go.Compare man. He said: “Eventually you’ve got to tell them before you go on the date.

“There was a statistic that when a Go.Compare ad went out, 98% of the population would come into contact with the ad, either through printed media, outdoor media, or TV and radio within three days. So you’ve got to be living in a cave [not to see it].”

Wynne is reportedly “taking it slow” with Liz. A source says he is now in a “much better” place than he was after his divorce from ex-wife Tanwen.

He is currently taking part in Strictly Come Dancing paired with Katya Jones. They will be dancing the Rumba to This Is My Life by Shirley Bassey this week.
