Strictly Come Dancing's first live show this week followed a spectacular launch that saw stars like JB Gill and Tasha Ghouri aiming for the coveted Glitterball trophy. But who has taken the lead in the first week, and who is lagging at the bottom of the leaderboard?

So who is leading the Strictly Come Dancing celeb and pro couples in the first week? Here's the full rundown for week 1.

Chris McCausland and Dianne Buswell - 23

Chris and his professional partner Dianne delivered an impressive cha cha to The Beatles' Twist and Shout, reports the Mirror.

Chris is Strictly's first ever blind contestant he admitted he wasn't interested in the show before participating, as he couldn't see the dances on-screen.

Wynne Evans and Katya Jones - 26

Welsh opera singer Wynne Evans renowned for his role in the GoCompare adverts showcased his dancing skills with a samba to Tom Jones' track Help Yourself.

Wynne also shared his significant weight loss ahead of competing on the show which should aid him in the fitness department.

Shayne Ward and Nancy Xu - 21

Among the favourites to win the Glitterball this year, X Factor champion and Coronation Street star Shayne Ward performed a samba with Nancy Xu this week.

They grooved to the Stevie Wonder hit Do I Do.

Jamie Borthwick and Michelle Tsiakkas - 23

EastEnders actor Jamie Borthwick danced a beautiful Viennese Waltz to the Benson Boone track Beautiful Things.

Jamie is no stranger to Strictly, having triumphed in the 2023 Christmas special alongside Nancy Xu with a perfect score of 40 points.

Pete Wicks and Jowita Przystal - 17

The Only Way is Essex star Pete Wicks delivered a passionate paso doble to The Prodigy's hit Breathe with his professional partner Jowita.

In addition to his Strictly stint, Pete has been appearing on Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins for a second time, but had to be airlifted from a mountain after "pushing himself too far" and collapsing.

Montell Douglas and Johannes Radebe - 26

Former Gladiators star Montell Douglas joined forces with Johannes Radebe, performing a smooth foxtrot to Dinah Washington's Is You Is or Is You Ain't My Baby.

The Team GB Olympian humorously remarked: "Hopefully, a few of my Gladiator moves will come in handy with the Tango or Paso Doble."

Sam Quek and Nikita Kuzmin - 23

Olympic athlete Sam Quek also took to the dance floor with Nikita Kuzmin for a foxtrot set to The Supremes' classic Where Did Our Love Go.

Discussing her participation in the show, Sam expressed: "People get so much joy, so much excitement, it brings people together and everyone has a different experience... To be going that long says something about the show."

JB Gill and Amy Dowden - 31

JLS sensation JB Gill, another favourite to clinch this year's Strictly title, performed an elegant waltz to When I Need You by Leo Sayer.

With previous dance experience from his JLS days, both on-stage and in music videos, JB is no novice to the dance floor, having previously won the Strictly Christmas trophy in 2012 with professional dancer Ola Jordan.

Toyah Willcox and Neil Jones - 12

Toyah Willcox and her partner Neil Jones, who has been absent from the line-up in recent years, danced a tango to Madonna's Ray of Light.

Sarah Hadland and Vito Coppola - 30

Sarah Hadland, star of Miranda, was quick on her feet as she performed a Quickstep with Vito Coppola to Dolly Parton's hit 9 to 5. Sarah revealed an amusing wardrobe malfunction where she accidentally flashed her crotch during a lift.

She said a member of the costume department "came running down with a bit of perfect matching marabou feather, and within about 10 seconds, it was stitched on the bottom of my dress."

Tasha Ghouri and Aljaz Skorjanec - 30

Love Island contestant Tasha Ghouri and her professional partner Aljaz Skorjanec brought Strictly into the 21st century with a cha cha to Sabrina Carpenter's summer hit Espresso.

Could Tasha follow in Rose Ayling-Ellis' footsteps and become the second Deaf Strictly star to win the trophy?

Dr Punam Krishan and Gorka Marquez - 19

TV doctor Punam Krishan also took on the cha cha this week, dancing to Kylie Minogue's Love at First Sight with Gorka Marquez.

Punam shared her excitement with RadioTimes, revealing: "I have loved watching it for as long as it's been on. It's a really incredible, feel-good, joyous show. I'm always doing things for everybody else pleasing my parents, working for my patients, being a mother, a wife. I'm putting myself out there to try something completely different, for me."

Paul Merson and Karen Hauer - 17

Football legend Paul Merson showed his playful side on the dance floor with an American Smooth themed around the football chant Vindaloo by Fat Les, making a nod to his sporting career.

Despite their efforts, he and professional partner Karen Hauer are tipped to be the first pair ousted from the competition.

Tom Dean and Nadiya Bychkova - 23

Olympic gold medallist Tom Dean impressed viewers with a sultry tango to Harry Styles' track 'Golden', alongside Nadiya Bychkova.

Tom expressed his thoughts, saying, "I've spent too long in the pool and not enough time on land! I couldn't be taught by anyone better a world champion. With the ballroom stuff, because we're both quite tall, we can make it look quite flowy and float across the floor, which should be quite good."

Nick Knowles and Luba Mushtuk - 18

DIY aficionado Nick Knowles brought energy to the stage, jiving with Luba Mushtuk to Starships anthem We Built This City.

Fans will have their chance to weigh in when voting lines open on week two, Saturday, September 28, with the season's first elimination airing the following night, Sunday, September 29.

As usual, tonight's spectacle began at 7pm on BBC One, yet there won't be a results show this weekend.
