Strictly Come Dancing enthusiasts were quick to discuss yet another tense interaction between Wynne Evans and his professional dance partner Katya Jones, as they progressed to the forthcoming week's competition.

During Saturday evening's show, a stir was caused amongst audiences when it was observed that Katya had shifted Wynne's hand away from her waist while on live television. Footage of this uncomfortable exchange spread swiftly online, sparking quite the conversation on various social media platforms.

In response to the controversy, a statement was issued by the duo on Saturday night, in which Katya described the situation as a "joke". Still, given the stiff atmosphere evident in the previous programme, many could not help but see an ongoing tension between the two dancers.

Sunday's results episode, aired on October 13, saw Katya and Wynne safely through to the next round, avoiding the risk of elimination. But attentive viewers couldn't miss the moment, announced by host Tess Daly, when Wynne hesitated for a short period before going in for a hug with Katya.

This didn't slip past the fans who promptly voiced their observations online. One user remarked: "Wynne kept his hands by his side until Katya hugged him first." Another commented: "Wynne very sheepishly saying thanks." (sic)

A third wrote: "Katya and Wynne looked super awkward there." Meanwhile, a fourth fan speculated: "I do wonder if Wynne has been spoken to, he looked very nervous before and after Tess announced they were through. They must have seen the reaction on here last night."

While social media has been abuzz with commentary on Wynne's apparent discomfort, some viewers have spoken out in his support, reports the Mirror.

A viewer commented: "Katya has her own voice and said she is fine with Wynne in two separate videos now.

"They were having a joke. Perhaps it would be a good idea to take it for what it is rather than ruining a guy's experience which he's clearly loving and potentially tarnish his reputation."

Another added their voice, suggesting: "Ok, so what if the Katya and Wynne incident was just something silly and nothing more? Poor Wynne looks shell shocked on the results show."

Responding to the whirlwind of fan concern from Saturday night, Katya and Wynne responded with a video statement to clarify the situation. Katya explained: "Hi everyone, it's Wynne and Katya here. We just wanted to say, we were just messing around in the Clauditorium on Saturday night.

"We just wanted to say sorry. It was a silly joke." Accompanying the apology, Wynne also offered a "sorry" to the viewers as he faced the camera.

Strictly Come Dancing airs Saturdays at 6:20pm on BBC One.
