Until I Kill You star hailed for 'powerful' performance in emotional finale

Viewers of Until I Kill You were left deeply moved, with many asserting that leading actress Anna Maxwell Martin merits an award for her 'powerful' portrayal.

The four-part ITV series premiered on Sunday and audiences have been captivated by the crime drama as Anne embodied the character of Delia to narrate her chilling tale.

The drama recounts how Delia, a Canadian agency nurse residing in London, encountered carpenter Sweeney in a local pub and initiated a relationship with him in 1991.

However, the narrative took a sinister twist when he assaulted her and confessed to murdering his ex-girlfriend in Amsterdam and disposing of her body in a canal.

In the final episode, which was broadcast on Wednesday (November 6) night, viewers traced the aftermath of Delia being attacked and tormented by serial killer John Sweeney, reports the Mirror.

After enduring life-altering injuries, she exited the hospital and endeavoured to rebuild her life. However, her ordeal was far from over.

Sweeney was ultimately apprehended for his assaults and Delia later bore witness against him in court but the verdict was not what she had anticipated, as John received a lenient sentence.

Consequently, Delia suffers from nightmares and panic attacks, but her predominant emotion is anger towards the police's treatment of her.

Nearly ten years later, police in Amsterdam identify Melissa Halstead's body and collaborate with officers in London to compile a case and Sweeney eventually admits the truth, earning a life sentence in prison.

As the compelling series wrapped up, Anna Maxwell Martin, star of Motherhood, has been receiving a deluge of accolades for her portrayal of Delia. Enthusiastic fans have taken to social media to express their reactions.
