Sir Tom Jones has revealed what his first impressions of a former co-star were in a savage three-word comment in his autobiography.

In his 2016 book, 'Over the Top and Back', Tom opened up about the original series of The Voice UK, which aired back in 2012 with four on-screen coaches; Tom, Jessie J, will.i.am and Danny O'Donoghue from The Script.

Sir Tom recounted a time prior to the show's launch when the four stars hadn't met each other, and the producers had arranged a dinner for them in a small private room at Soho House in London.

The 'Green Green Grass of Home' crooner revealed that they later attended a press launch, and although he recognised Jessie J and will.i.am as "huge pop stars", he said Danny O'Donoghue was more of an "unknown".

Tom wrote: "Later, there's a press launch for the first series at a hotel in London. Will and Jessie are huge pop stars at this point.

"Danny's the unknown Irish guy. And me...well, I'm Nelson's Column, or something. A monument of some kind. I haven't quite worked it out yet."

The 'It’s Not Unusual' singer later went into more detail about his co-stars, saying will.i.am reminded him a "little of Wyclef Jean", as he's "bright" and "out there", with a "producer's approach".

Tom described Jessie J as a "ballsy kid" who's both "talented" and "driven", although she "questions herself all the time". However, he had something a little different to say about Danny.

He said: "And then there's Danny who, because he has the lowest profile of the four of us, will have to put up with being called Danny I Dunno Who when the series kicks off."

On a more complimentary note, Tom added: "But he's smart and funny and properly knowledgeable about music."

Danny quit The Voice after just two years but continued to perform with his band, who are known for their hit songs including 'The Man Who Can't Be Moved' and 'Breakeven'.

The singer previously shared a story about a six-hour champagne drinking session with Sir Tom, confessing that he struggled to keep up with him.

Danny told BBC Radio Wales that he and Tom were "probably there six hours or something from 12 o'clock to six in the morning".
