Vernon Kay has been forced off-air after battling a sore throat and taking advice from his doctor. The Radio 2 presenter apologised for his croakiness on Monday when Zoe Ball handed over to him on her first day back after a six-week break.

On Tuesday, Gaby Roslin was standing in for the Bolton presenter who had had to call in sick.

She gave fans an update this morning and said: "Gaby in for Vernon Kay. It's a joy to be here. "Vernon, I hope your throat is feeling better. I was listening yesterday, I love the show but did worry about your throat. So take it easy, no talking today."

Vernon also posted on social media to tell fans he would be missing his regular 9.30am slot.

He said: "Morning everyone, under doctors orders I'm resting my voice. It should be alright tomorrow, but I'm going to slide away from the microphone this morning and just rest the vocal cords. They're a bit strained allegedly, very hoarse."

Vern also added that he is hoping to be back on Wednesday.

The presenter is off air a day after his Radio 2 colleague, Zoe Ball returned to the Breakfast Show after six weeks. No reason was given for her absence but she did return on Monday, September 23, and opened the show saying: "Morning gorgeous people. It is me, Zo, the happy wanderer. I have wandered back. How was your brat summer? We did that back in the 90s, it was called something different then. Brining back memories. Have you been enjoying some of the gorgeous sunsets over the past couple of weeks? It is a tad soggy. Thank you to my dear friend Scott Mills for looking after you. I have missed ya."
