Copyright lawsuit erupts over ‘valuable’ Grimes photo

There’s a fight over singer-songwriter Grimes and former romantic partner Elon Musk isn’t involved.

Hollywood celeb photo agency Backgrid is suing Interview magazine for copyright infringement for posting a “valuable” exclusive photo of the popular musician on its Instagram page without permission in October 2021, a federal lawsuit says.

The snap at the center of the litigation shows a laser-focused Grimes — wearing a spacey brown and black outfit — reading the 2005 horror/romance novel “Twilight” by Stephenie Meyer, according to the filing.

Interview “knew they did not have the right to post and exploit the photo,” the complaint says.

The suit seeks unspecified damages.

Backgrid “attempted to resolve this dispute prior to filing” the federal complaint on Sept. 25, the court docs state. However, Interview “refused to engage in meaningful discussions,” the suit says.

Neither Backgrid nor Interview returned messages.
