Meanwhile, hundreds of people gathered along O'Connell Street in Dublin city centre for a hoax Halloween parade.

Gardaí asked people waiting on O'Connell Street to "disperse safely".

Pictures and footage posted on social media show hundreds of people lined up along O'Connell Street waiting for the hoax parade to get under way.

A rumour is understood to have circulated online that a Halloween parade was due to take place in the city centre.

"All those gathered on O'Connell Street in expectation of such a parade are asked to disperse safely."
