BINTULU (Nov 2): Bintulu folk welcome Batik Air’s new Kuala Lumpur-Bintulu direct flight route.

According to Tanjong Batu assemblyman Johnny Pang, this is good news for the people of Bintulu and the opening of the route may be able to resolve issues of high fares and lack of seats.

He added this could also attract more airlines to establish similar flight routes to Bintulu.

He noted that the new route would have 10 round trips every week.

“The arrival of Batik Air is a good sign for Bintulu; we finally have more options and no longer need to worry about finding seats for flights to Kuala Lumpur,” he said.

He expressed gratitude to the Sarawak Ministry of Transport and the Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) for their support and hoped this new route will bring more benefits and development opportunities to Bintulu.

Meanwhile, Batik Air chief executive officer Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy stated that this inaugural flight proved Batik Air’s commitment to connecting Malaysia’s regions and supporting Sarawak’s growth as a prime destination.

“By expanding our route network to this rapidly developing city, we aim to empower local tourism, support regional business growth, and provide travellers with smooth and enjoyable connections throughout East Malaysia and beyond,” he said in a statement.

He mentioned that Bintulu is known for eco-tourism and significant industries, offering easy access for tourists to witness Sarawak’s stunning natural landscapes and a thriving business environment.

He added that as a gateway for foreign travellers and a cultural attraction, Bintulu welcomes visitors to explore iconic destinations such as Similajau National Park, known for its pristine beaches, lush green rainforests and diverse wildlife, including proboscis monkeys, hornbills, and estuarine crocodiles.

In addition to its tourist attractions, he stated that Bintulu plays a crucial role in Malaysia’s economic landscape, particularly in the production of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE), making it an invaluable destination for business travellers and investors.

The Kuala Lumpur-Bintulu route operates 10 times a week, providing daily trips with convenient options using Batik Air’s comfortable Boeing 737 aircraft, available in both Economy and Business Class.

With the addition of the Bintulu, he said Batik Air’s Sarawak portfolio now also includes major destinations such as Kuching and Sibu, offering travellers more choices to explore Malaysia’s largest state and facilitating smoother connections between East and West Malaysia.
