Janey Godley's 'disgustingly offensive' last call with Billy Connolly from hospice bed
The comedian cancelled her most recent tour and announced she would be moving into a hospice after receiving treatment for ovarian cancer, with doctors advising her not to work anymore
by Amelia Ward · The MirrorJaney Godley received a "disgusting" call from her pal Sir Billy Connolly, cheering the late star up while she was in her hospice bed.
The 63-year-old comedian, who died after receiving treatment for cancer, was left in stitches after she got a call from fellow Glaswegian Billy.
She revealed the 81-year-old's call put a smile on her face, writing on X : "A Florida phone call from an old Glasgow pal can fair cheer me up. Same old darkest, offensive, humour and plethora of disgusting swearing as always! Laughter abound! What a smile though - what a man - may comedy always be as offensively funny now and forever."
Janey's witty skits went viral during lockdown, in which she shared voiceovers of politicians and fiercely stood up for the rights of others. But she recently shared the sad news that she was on end of life care, and was admitted to a hospice, following a course of chemo after being diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2021.
The Glaswegian comedian cancelled her Why Is She Still Here? tour in September, confirming her cancer was terminal and had spread, after being advised by doctors not to work anymore.
Janey has shared her journey with her social media followers, having posted updates from her hospice bed while she was treated until the end. Recently, she brought fans to tears after filming her reunion with her dog Honey. The excited pooch could be seen jumping on Janey's bed, pouncing on top of her adoring owner as they shared a sweet moment together.
Today, just weeks after the clip was shared, the news of Janey's death was announced by a family spokesperson. The statement read: “It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our client Doctor Janey Godley on 2nd November. Janey died peacefully in the wonderful Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice in Glasgow surrounded by her loved ones. She will be hugely missed by her family, friends and her many fans
“She will be remembered for her legendary voiceovers of Nicola Sturgeon during the pandemic, her hilarious and outspoken comedy, but most of all for just being ‘Janey’."
The much-loved Scot's X account also shared the sad news this morning, posting: "Earlier this morning Janey passed away in her sleep. Her family were with her. The love and support from all her friends and fans during this cancer journey brought her enormous joy. It has also been a huge comfort to us, her family and close friends, thank you."
Paying tribute to Janey following the heartbreaking news, her daughter, Ashley Storrie, said: "My mum Jane godly died this morning about seven. She was with friends an family and I wanted to tell you face to face because it felt very much what she would have wanted.
“She went peacefully. And I want to say a big thank you to all the staff at the Prince and Princess of Wales hospice. And a big thank you to mum’s found family who were around her throughout these last horrible days."
