Fans of nineties alt rock bands might struggle to recognise the lead singer of one of the biggest bands that were around 30 years ago.

The group - who hail from Boston, Massachusetts, in the USA - had huge hits in the early to mid nineties with songs including It’s A Shame About Ray, Confetti, and Mrs Robinson. And while the band are still on the road and released their most recent album in 2019, original fans of the band might struggle to pull the frontman - who even made music with Noel Gallagher - out of a lineup.

The band are The Lemonheads - whose biggest hit was in 1993 with the track Into Your Arms which hit number 14 in the UK - and there has been a multi-changing line-up over the years that would give the Sugababes a run for their money. However, the most consistent member is front man Evan Dando who has been in the group since they formed in 1986. Taking to Instagram in recent weeks, the band have been promoting their most recent tour - with Evan front of centre of the images. But while back in his day, the singer was a fresh faced, clean shaven young man, he is now looking near unrecognisable with a more rugged look.

Now 56-years-old Evan is sporting long, shaggy hair and a well groomed, and greying, beard. And the star shared a photo of himself wearing an orange cap and multicoloured checked shirt while promoting his tour. The band has been on the road in the USA in celebration of the 30th anniversary of their sixth album Come on Feel the Lemonheads which reached number 5 in the UK when it was released in 1993. In a recent interview, Evan discussed a song he wrote with Noel Gallagher that was never released.

He told Leonard Tissot: “You know what's weird? We've written it in 94. I had forgotten about the thing. On Glastonbury 95, Noel was like: ‘Evan, you got to record “Purple Parallelogram”, you know?’. And I was like, it sounds like achy breaky heart. But he was like: ‘No, no, Evan. Come on’. So, at his insistence, I recorded it. And then he's like: ‘oh, he's trying to sell records off the back of my name’. I was like: ‘Noel, come on’.

“I guess the record company had to take it off. It's not that good. So that was a mess. But we have our secret track now, which every band should have that. ‘Oh, you ever heard that song that no one knows? The song that never came out?’. You gotta have one of those. I always think about it.”
