'Mum is tattooing my husband's initial on herself – I find it very odd'

A woman fears her mum's love for her son-in-law has got a bit too extreme – as she's planning to get his initials permanently tattooed onto her skin. So what do you think?

A woman couldn't believe her ears when her mum announced she'd be getting her son-in-law's initial tattooed on her own skin.

The 26-year-old has been married to her husband, 29, for five years and he really feels like part of the family. In fact, her mum treats her son-in-law like her actual son.

And as a token of gratitude, she plans to get his first initial tattooed on her wrist alongside her own husband's and son's. The daughter does not think this is a very sweet idea though – and is feeling creeped out.

So she took to Reddit for advice, writing: "He is my soulmate and all our friends and families think so as well. My mum just got a tattoo with my brother, 31, and I’s initials on her and decided she wanted to get another one. This time she’s getting three hearts on her wrist, with the first initial in my husband, my brother, and I’s name.

"When I commented on how it was very sweet of her to get my husband's initial, but it was a little odd, she went on a speech about how he is her son now too and she loves him like a son and she knows he’s my soulmate and that we will never split up."

Despite trying to be diplomatic, the daughter can't help but feel uneasy. She added: "I told her that was very kind and true but I’m also just a pragmatist in the sense that anything can happen, even if the chance is insanely slim. My husband and I think it’s weird, but we both agree it’s her body and her choice."

People largely agree with the Redditor – but they have encouraged her to look on the bright side. It is nice to have such a welcoming family, after all.

One commenter replied: "It is a little weird but I think she's just trying to be sweet and include him as a child that really nice." And another said: "It's weird but actually kinda sweet that she considers him a son as opposed to not actual family."
