A curry house has hit back after a customer claimed they found a plaster in their meal by outlining why they believe it may have been sabotage.

Latif's Indian restaurant in Alsager, Cheshire, has questioned whether there were ulterior motives after receiving the one-star TripAdvisor review.

The owners responded after a diner labelled their takeaway 'disgusting' and claimed a birthday meal had been ruined over what they found in their food. A photo, posted alongside the review, showed the plaster on the side of the plate, which the diner had alleged was deep fried in the onion bhaji.

The full post read: "Birthday dinner ruined! While eating an onion bhaji we found a bandage/plaster in the food! Yes deep fried in the actual bhaji!! It made us physically sick and all the food was returned immediately. I have major hygiene concerns and would highly recommend spending your money elsewhere. Disgusting."

But Latif's, in Crewe Road, suggested that the diner may have been trying to sabotage the award-winning business. They have now moved to reassure customers that they take food hygiene very seriously.

In a statement shared on Facebook, Latif's said: "At Latif's Restaurant, customer satisfaction and food safety are our top priorities. Recently, we received a complaint from a customer who claimed to have found a plaster in an onion bhaji from their takeout order. We take all feedback very seriously, so we promptly issued a full refund and offered our sincerest apology."

"We would like to clarify some important details regarding this incident. Our first aid kit contains only blue plasters. Moreover, when the customer returned the order, everything inside the bag remained exactly as it was originally packed, making it unusual that only one box was opened while the rest of the items were untouched."

"Furthermore, the plaster in question does not align with the types we use in our restaurant, raising further questions about how it ended up in the food. We are deeply concerned that this incident may be an attempt to harm our restaurant's reputation, especially considering our established standing in the community."

"Nevertheless, we remain fully committed to upholding our rigorous hygiene and safety standards. While we do not wish to speculate on the intentions behind this incident, we find the situation troubling. As a well-established business that has earned the trust of our customers, we will continue to prioritise the highest standards of hygiene and customer service."

Latif's currently has a food hygiene of four out of five, where five is the highest score, meaning standards are 'good' following an inspection earlier this year, reported StokeonTrentLive.

Latif's added: "We deeply value the trust our customers place in us and assure you that we will continue to uphold the values and standards that have defined Latif's restaurant for years. Thank you for your continued support. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to us directly."
