Gavin and Stacey star Alison Steadman has revealed the moment that she had a chilling encounter with disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein.

The 78-year-old actress, who will be back on TV screens at Christmas when the finale of the much beloved Gavin and Stacey is aired, has spoken about the time Weinstein came to see her perform in 'The Rise and Fall of Little Voice' in the West End, where she was playing an overbearing monster, mum Mari Hoff, which ironically is what Weinstein has been labelled among other things when revelations about his conduct were shared by his victims.

Speaking to The Times, Alison recalled the moment that she encountered Weinstein and the feelings she had following the meeting. She told the publication that the film producer gave her a look of daggers: "Someone said, ‘Harvey wants to take us for drinks.’ I went to the pub, and I remember he stood there and looked at me like that …"

Confused by the meeting, Alison added: “I thought, ‘What’s going on? You’ve just seen the show and I was in it.’ He wouldn’t speak to me. The next day [her co-star] Jane Horrocks said, ‘Isn’t it great we’re doing a film version?’ I said, ‘I don’t think I am.’ I wasn’t a name, I hadn’t been nominated for a Golden Globe."

Alison said that she had another similar experience shortly afterwards, when she stood next to Weinstein as they entered the BAFTAs and it left her not surprised when the revelations about him came out. She said: "Again he looked at me. If he’d ignored me that would have been one thing, but it was like he was making sure to tell me, ‘I’m not going to use you.’ It was absolutely horrible. So when I heard all this stuff about him, I thought, ‘I’m not in the least surprised.’"

Weinstein was once again in court earlier this month, when he pleaded not guilty to a new first-degree felony charge. The 72-year-old appeared in a court in Manhattan on September 18, as he faced the accusation of sexually assaulting a woman in a New York hotel in 2006.

Asked for his plea during the hearing, Weinstein said: "Not guilty." Manhattan's district attorney Alvin Bragg Jr confirmed that Weinstein has been charged with a criminal sexual act in the first degree and rape in the third degree, both of which related to a previous New York State Supreme Court indictment.

Bragg said: "Thanks to this survivor who bravely came forward, Harvey Weinstein now stands indicted for an additional alleged violent sexual assault. This investigation is ongoing. If you have been sexually assaulted, I assure you that our team of dedicated prosecutors, investigators, social workers, and many more stand at the ready to support you."
