Shetland returns to BBC One this week and the first part of the six-episode series begins with a jittery young man holding a shotgun. In front of him is his brother's dead body and detectives have him surrounded.

Later that night, DI McIntosh attends a friend's birthday party and witnesses an argument between a husband and wife. Their nine-year-old son tells the detective his parents are splitting up.

Before they leave, the wife arranges a meeting with Tosh as she wants to speak to her about something important. However, when Tosh arrives for the meeting, there is no sign of the mother and son.

The episodes will air weekly on Wednesdays at 9pm as the mystery unravels as to who is responsible for the mother and son's disappearance.
