Former Freddie Flintoff has landed a brand new gig as the host for the reboot of the darts game show Bullseye.

The game show was originally presented in the 80s and 90s by Jim Bowen. Former Ashes legend Freddie, 46, will take over from the late comic's old role for a one-off Christmas special, which bosses are reportedly hoping will become a regular series after it airs later this year.

"I love the darts and Bullseye was one of my favourite shows as a kid," he excitedly shared the news. "I can’t quite believe I’ll get to host this Christmas special," before repeating one of the former host's famous catchphrases: "You can't beat a bit of Bully!" It will be Freddie's first TV commission, besides his recent documentary Field of Dreams, since his horrific crash.

The cricketer and TV presenter nearly lost his life during a horror crash in December 2022. The ex-England cricket ace was filming for Top Gear at Dunsfold Park Aerodrome in Surrey when disaster struck. He suffered serious injuries after the Morgan Super 3 trike he was driving, alongside a member of the film crew, somersaulted and smashed into the track.

He suffered from broken ribs and facial injuries, with the star being airlifted to the hospital. He stayed out of the spotlight since the crash but recently returned to TV in August for his Field of Dreams on Tour, where he helped coach an unlikely cricket team from Preston to tour India.

During the programme, Freddie opened up about how gruesome his injuries were, with fans rushing to social media to share their support for the former cricket star. One person on X, formerly known as Twitter, said: "What an incredible bloke Freddie Flintoff is," while one added: "What a bloody lovely guy. Always thought it, so brave & encouraging those boys whilst going through tough times, all credit to you Fred. Heartwarming to watch."

Speaking about what he went through, he said: "Week and a half after my accident. Genuinely should not be here after what happened. This is going to be a long road back and I have only just started and I am struggling already. I need help. I really am not the best at asking for it. I need to stop crying every two minutes. I am looking forward to seeing the lads and being around them, I really am. This India trip is going to be for me as much as them now. I really want to go."

Almost two years after the crash, Freddie will be 'starting a whole new chapter of his career'. An insider told The Sun about the ITV reboot: “Few would have predicted the move but it’s a genius signing because Freddie has the same dry, Lancashire sense of humour and delivery as Jim."
