Liam Payne's ex shares heartbreaking post about grief and loving One Direction star
Late One Direction singer Liam Payne's ex-girlfriend, Danielle Peazer, shared a heartbreaking poem about grief on social media
by Zara Woodcock · The MirrorLiam Payne's ex-girlfriend, Danielle Peazer, shared a heartbreaking post about 'shaking hands with friend and welcoming it in' after the death of the former One Direction singer.
Strip That Down singer Liam died aged 31 on October 16 when he fell from the third-floor balcony of the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. His heartbroken fans, friends, ex-partners and family shared their own personal statements as they opened up about their grief.
Danielle, who dated Liam for two years between 2010 and 2013, previously shared a statement and said she had 'hoped and prayed that this day would never come' before she reminisced about their relationship and went on to share her support to Cheryl Tweedy and his son, Bear.
In a new post summarising how her October went, Danielle shared photos of snippets from her month, including pictures with her family and snaps of herself enjoying the pool and some drinks. The very last photo was of a poem about grief from Donna Ashworth's book, Wild Hope.
"You don't move on after loss, but you must move with. You must shake hands with grief, welcome her in, for she lives with you now. Pull her a chair at the table and offer her comfort. She is not the monster you first thought her to be. She is love," the poem read.
"And she will walk with you now, stay with you now, peacefully. If you let her. And on the days when your anger is high, remember why she came, remember who she represents. Remember. Grief came to you, my friend, because love came first. Love came first." Danielle captioned her post: "Reflecting on moments in October."
The couple's relationship ended in 2013 but she reconciled with Liam in 2022, with the pair leaving the Nobu Hotel in Shoreditch together. They were also spotted together at celeb hotspots Chiltern Firehouse and Annabel's. But the rekindling didn't last and Danielle moved on with former Capital FM DJ Sonny Jay, who won Dancing On Ice in 2021. In May this year, Sonny and Danielle announced the birth of their daughter.
In her statement following Liam's death, Danielle revealed he contacted her several weeks before he fell from the hotel balcony. At the end of her tribute, she wrote: "Thank you for teaching me about the importance of setting boundaries, and that I should always protect my heart. Receiving a message from you a couple of weeks ago expressing your happiness for the love I found with Sonny and Mia is something I'll cherish forever.
"I'm sorry your story didn't end differently, and I'm sorry you didn't ever get to share more of your magic with the world. Rest easy my friend. Love Danielle."
