JLS sensation Aston Merrygold is in mourning after the tragic loss of backing dancer Jack Pointer Mackenzie, who passed away at 35.

Aston, catapulted to fame alongside his JLS co-stars on the X Factor in 2009, paid a heart-wrenching tribute to Jack today, highlighting the time they shared both on stage and off.

Jack was a beloved figure during JLS's monumental run from their X Factor days up until their 2021 tour.

On Instagram, to his 518k followers, Aston posted an image of Jack with the words "RIP captain," adorned with prayer and raised hands emojis. He noted: "Original JLS member."

Adding to his homage, Aston uploaded a video of Jack dancing brilliantly with the caption: "Captain Jack always with the vibe from 2009 and beyond! ! A phenomenal team member! ", reports the Express.

He echoed sentiments shared by Based Dance Studios, which said of Jack: "A unique gift, who shall be sorely missed. Thank you for sharing your talent with us. Jack Nathaniel Pointer-Mackenzie."

Another tribute came via Aston's Instagram Story, where he reposted fellow dancer Dax O'Callaghans video of Jack, a video that Dax admits "means so much" to him and stressed Jack would be "sorely missed".

At present, no information about Jacks cause of death has been disclosed.

The JLS family including Marvin Humes, Ortise Williams, and JB Gill, all share in this grief, as witnessed by fans expressing their sorrow in the Instagram comments.

Sam expressed his sorrow with a tearful emoji, writing: "Not Jack," and added, "Hadn't seen him in years but what a sweet soul and infectious spirit he had. Can't believe it. Rest easy my man."

Aleta shared her condolences: "A huge loss for the community. Love to his closest, and dearest. Fly High Jack."

Valeria reflected on the impact of the news, saying: "Much love, these news have been in my mind and heart for few weeks, processing still everything we can learn from him."
