The BBC's latest drama series, Nightsleeper, has left viewers divided over two key details. The new six-part thriller, which premiered on Sunday, 15 September, has been met with mixed reviews. Nightsleeper centres around a train journey featuring actor Joe Cole, known for his roles in Peaky Blinders and Gangs of London, and Alexandra Roach, recognised from No Offence and Sanditon. Penned by BAFTA-winning writer Nick Leather, the plot revolves around a sleeper train from Glasgow to London that is hijacked by hackers, forcing its passengers into a desperate struggle for survival.

The cast also includes The Bay's Sharon Small, James Cosmo from Jack Ryan, Alex Ferns of The Devil's Hour, and Lois Chimimba, known for her role in Vigil. Joe and Alexandra play the lead characters Abby and Joe. Following the airing of the first episodes of Nightsleeper, viewers took to social media to share their thoughts. It appears some were less than impressed with the BBC's latest offering, reports OK!.

Many suggested there was an easy solution to the problem presented on the train, while others expressed disappointment with Joe's performance, given his stellar work in other dramas.

On Reddit, viewers have been dishing out mixed reviews on the latest show with one fan confessing: "I liked it, in that it kept me on the edge of my seat. Thought it was corny as hell though and did not show any great acting prowess from Joe." Another chimed in to agree, stating: "I liked it but joes character wasn't the most compelling."

Critics weren't left speechless either, with one viewer lambasting the performance as "expressionless" and sniping: "Every line was delivered the same." Meanwhile, a perplexed fan pondered the narrative's logic by asking: "Why couldn't they just disconnect the device?"

Peaky Blinders fandom, take note – star Joe quips there's no drama deficit in Nightsleeper, confessing even his eyebrows were raised. He spilled to Metro gossips: "I thought the writers might run out of ideas, but it got progressively more bonkers, which is perfect really and what you want and it's certainly something I'd tune into if I was a viewer."

Joe even bantered about the side effects of shooting the series, which include a new phobia. Wrapping up his chat, he divulged: "I wasn't too keen on getting onto a train after this one if I'm honest, mainly because I spent so many hours on train carriages for about three months."
