BBC star Jay Blades leaves fans speechless with new career move after The Repair Shop axe

Jay Blades hosted a late night DJ session to a handful of fans at midnight where he spun some tunes on the DJ deck prompting fans to express their surprise

Jay Blades hosts a bizarre late night DJ session online - a far cry from the seven million fans who would tune in to watch him on hit show The Repair Shop.

The presenter is currently off-screen in the wake of charges relating to controlling and coercive behaviour towards his estranged wife Lisa Zbozen, aged 43.

In the DJ set, the telly host was seen lifting his arms aloft and chatting amiably to the small audience tuned in at around midnight. Wearing a black jumper and his trademark specs, the star introduced himself as Jay Blades MBE on the live streamed session

As one viewer put it: "I couldn’t believe it when I saw he was online doing a session – it’s a website called MixCloud which DJs use. He seemed like a guy without a care in the world, and looked like he was having a few drinks and he was dancing away on his own – maybe that is helping to get him through. At the end he said he’d be back online soon and asked viewers to keep an eye on his channels for updates about it.”

Jay Blades suprised fans with a DJ set which comes after he was charged

At one point in the broadcast, he inexplicably cut to a still image from one of his hugely successful TV shows – a one-off special featuring Judi Dench with the pair seen side by side.

His appearance comes as Blades' shows have been shelved by TV channels after he was charged with coercive behaviour.

The BBC also looks set to axe the Christmas special of The Repair Shop.

Channel 5 have shelved a documentary series Blades was making called A Country House Through Time. And Channel 4 have confirmed they will not be making a sequel to his recent travelogue with Dame Judi Dench, The Odd Couple.

Blades has presented The Repair Shop for seven years. His estranged wife posted a message on Instagram on May 2 saying their 18-month marriage had ended. West Mercia Police launched an investigation a day later. Blades has been bailed and is due to appear at Worcester crown court on October 11. His spokeswoman declined to comment.
