Anya Taylor-Joy reveals her 'love story' with husband was sewn into wedding dress

Anya Taylor-Joy has revealed she had her "love story" with husband Malcolm McRae sewn into her Dior wedding dress when they tied the knot in a secret ceremony in New Orleans

Anya Taylor-Joy's wedding dress was a tapestry of love, with the actress revealing that her Dior gown for her Venice ceremony was stitched with personal symbols narrating her and her husband Malcolm McRae's romance.

The 28-year-old star, who initially eloped to New Orleans in 2023 for a secret marriage, later celebrated with a grand event in Italy, attended by 150 guests. Speaking to WWD.com, Anya shared: "I wanted our love story to be embroidered on the dress. I didn't want to wear white, I don't know why, but there's so much embroidery."

She detailed the unique elements of the dress, saying, "You've got a little speedboat because my dad was a world powerboat champion when he was younger. And we've got things for my husband's family, coordinates - the whole story."

The 'Queen's Gambit' actress kept her New Orleans nuptials under wraps until their second anniversary this year, valuing her privacy above all. It wasn't until April that she allowed glimpses of her Venice wedding, praising Dior's Maria Grazia Chiuri for her dedication to creating a dress that might never have been showcased to the world.

Anya expressed her gratitude, adding: "Maria was so sweet about it, just took the time and was so caring, and she knew that the dress wouldn't be seen. I've intentionally not released any pictures of my wedding. So she did it just for love."

In the chat with WWD, Anya admitted that due to her hectic schedule, she hasn't had the chance to fully unpack since moving into her Los Angeles home three years ago. She said: "My work life moves so fast that my private life tends to not necessarily catch up. I've owned my house for two, or three years, and I still haven't fully unpacked. Everything is just basically liveable."

Previously, in a 2022 interview with British Vogue, Anya shared insights about her relationship with Malcolm, saying: "I said to my partner the other day that he was my hobby."

She added: "I see reading as something that I have to do. He loved it because he's the same. I've finally found someone who will happily sit in silence with me reading." She concluded by saying: "We're basically 80 years old and seven at the same time and it works really well."
