Saoirse Ronan has confessed that she auditioned for a role in Harry Potter but did not get the part.

Speaking on the Jimmel Kimmel show on Thursday (October 4), the Irish actress, famous for her roles in Ladybird, Brooklyn and Little Women, said that she auditioned to play the part of Luna Lovegood.

Jimmy asked her if there were any roles in the past that she still wishes she had got, or not passed on, to this day. Saoirse said there are sometimes roles she's passed on and then when the film has come out, she wished she had been in it.

"I knew I wasn't going to get it because I was too young but I got to read out a scene that was going to be in Harry Potter and it was the coolest thing ever."

She also said that as a tradition she always starts the Harry Potter movies and then watch them in the lead up to Christmas. Elsewhere, the actress also said that she was going to play the role of Weird Barbie in the Barbie film.

But she was filming for her new movie The Outrun at the time and so couldn't commit. Evanna Lynch played Luna Lovegood and first appeared in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

She is a rather quirky character but becomes friends with Harry and was one of the only students who believed Harry when he warned that Lord Voldemort was back.
