David Walliams says famous ex saw him as 'gay best friend' and romances 'weren't what they seemed'

Britain's Got Talent judge David Walliams has been linked with numerous glam women over the years, but his romances all seem to fizzle out, with the actor seemingly a perpetual friend zone victim

David Walliams' said his famous soap star ex saw him as a 'gay best friend', with many of his romances sharing a similar story.

The Britain's Got Talent judge, 53, has been linked romantically with a string of glamourous women, including Made In Chelsea's Ashley James, 37, Playboy model Emily Agnes, 33, and Miss Norway contender Sylvia Flote, 40. His famous soap star ex, Aussie Neighbours actress turned singer Natalie Imbruglia just saw him as a 'gay best friend', according to Walliams, and his romantic interests seem to be perpetually friend-zoned.

Natalie and David have been friends for years, with frequent sightings in public sparking romance rumours, but he has revealed he was in love with Natalia, 49, despite them being friends for years.

The comic told the Mirror : "She's very much friend-zoned me. You know when that happens, that you have a huge crush on someone and you sort of imagine being married and what your kids look like and all that sort of thing? And you're just completely friend-zoned."

David suggested it was down to his camp demeanour and sense of humour that she reportedly didn't view him in the romantic sense - which he admits has happened on more than one occasion. He added: "We didn't go on any dates. We just became very good friends and we hung out together. But you know, it’s hard not to kind of fall for her like a ton of bricks because she is amazing. I think I'm seen as the sort of gay best friend by a lot of people."

Although Matt did marry Dutch model Lara, 40, in 2010, they split five years later after haing a son together, Alfred, 11.

But many other of his flings with younger, attractive women went the same way. David's love interest Geri Haliwell, 52, told the Mail on Sunday in 2015: "Love him. But he’s a friend. Never been anything more."

Another of his potential romances, who he wrote about in his 2006 book and was referred to as Miss X, turned out to be presenter Lisa Snowdon. But she confirmed the couple share "no romance".

Speaking to the Sun at the time, Lisa said: "Yes, It’s me. I’m Miss X. I was hoping no one would realise. David and I are great friends and he’s such an amazing bloke, but there is no romance. David has made it clear he has feelings for me but we’ve got to a point where we can just have a platonic relationship".

Lisa admitted the pair dated briefly in 2005 but she didn't want anything romantic to happen.

Another rumoured romance was between him and model Keeley Hazell after the pair went to Declan Donnelly's wedding together. The pair jetted of to Italy the week after, with Instagram photos showing the pair looking close.

But once again, things weren't as they seemed, and they are just close friends.

A source previously told The Sun: "David and Keeley go way back and have kept in touch since she attempted to break into acting in the US. He has a big empty home and was grateful for the company so it suited both parties. During her glamour modelling days, David was known as a keen admirer but now sees her very much as a close pal."
