An American actor looked unrecognisable as he rocked a completely different look while filming a new rom-com in Italy.

Kevin James, who starred in 90s sitcom The King of Queens, was seen with a thick moustache and beard stubble as he sported a black padded coat in Rome on Thursday. He was filmed riding around the famous Acqua Paola Fountain with Italian actress Nicole Grimaudo, 44, on the back seat.

The pair had a helmet on, and Kevin, 59, also wore sunglasses as the two actors followed the instructions of the stunt team. Nicole had a casual outfit with blue jeans and a red leather biker jacket on.

In the new romantic comedy "Solo Mio" - which means "only mine" in Italian - Kevin plays Matt, a man who gets stood up at the altar in Italy by his fiancée and decides to go on his honeymoon alone, according to Screen Daily. Film producer Mark Fasano described the new film, directed by Dan and Charles Kinnane, as "an incredible project that shows audiences it’s never too late to reinvent your life."

He added: "Kevin is at his most vulnerable in this film and we're fortunate to have Chuck and Dan Kinnane on board to direct." Producer Jeffrey Greenstein, who introduced the film to Cannes buyers in May this year, described Kevin as "the perfect lead" and promised that audiences "will fall in love with him all over again."

He said: "We're excited to entertain the world with this fun-loving romantic comedy that reminds us to be present regardless of circumstances; life is a journey that begs each of us to find happiness within. Kevin is the perfect lead and audiences will fall in love with him all over again; we couldn't be happier to build on our relationship with him."

Kevin, who is also a comedian, is best known for his roles in The King of Queens and Here Comes the Boom. On September 21 last year, the actor shared an Instagram post to mark the 25th anniversary of The King of Queens and took a moment to reflect on the sitcom's legacy.

He starred in the sitcom alongside Leah Remini and they played married middle-class couple Doug and Carrie Heffernan, who lived in the Queens borough of New York City. In the series, Kevin was a delivery driver while his co-star worked as a legal secretary. The pair lived together in their home with her father Arthur, played by Jerry Stiller, who died in 2020.

He captioned the photo: "25 years ago today, we aired. I am so incredibly blessed to have taken this ride with the insanely talented @leahremini and Jerry Stiller. “I love you both so much… and thank you to the GREATEST FANS in the world. LOVE YOU!"

Leah wrote on Instagram that the show changed her life, saying: "Today marks the 25th anniversary of the King of Queens. By the time I signed on as Carrie Heffernan, I had been to hundreds of auditions, was cast in many pilots and some short-lived series, and was finally offered ‘The King Of Queens.’ As soon as production started on season one, I knew I was home, and I am blessed to say I was part of a truly special show that went on for nine seasons and 207 episodes and still lives on successfully in syndication."
