'I tried McDonald's 'best ever' burger - but one thing really lets it down'

McDonalds have definitely turned up the heat with their "best ever" burger, and it's good news for fans who like things spicy.

Maccies fans have been treated to a number of new menu goodness recently as the highly anticipated McRib returned to the golden arches, and now the arrival of the Chilli Double Cheeseburger. With two beef patties, cheese, onions, jalapenos, pickles and spicy relish, it's part of the re-launched saver menu, and McDonald's promises it will 'tantalise taste buds without breaking the bank' costing £2.49, and that was enough to win me over and give it a try.

When the fast food giant announced the arrival of the 'McSpicy', I was excited to try something with a little kick; I was left not too pleased as it didn't quite bring the heat I was anticipating, so I was hoping this cheeseburger would help revive my expectations. Already a firm favourite in South Africa, I was excited to try it for myself.

From first glance, it looked like just a pretty standard cheeseburger, but that's where any sort of comparison stopped. As soon as I took the first bite, I was hit with intense spice. It definitely lives up to its name (finally!). I am a McDonald's fan, and while I'd usually plump for a regular cheeseburger - usually after a night out - I think this cheeseburger is perfect for those who fancy a little kick. It has the same taste as a regular cheeseburger, but just with that added oomph and I am all for it.

The classic cheeseburger has been at the brunt of some negativity over the years, with many slamming the burger as 'bland', so in response, McDonalds decided to really fight back. There were a handful of seriously spicy jalapenos and a layer of sweet and spicy relish, which was a nice taste addition - and gave it even more of a kick.

All with the same distinct burger patty taste and lots of melted American cheese on top. McDonald's have really impressed me with this new burger, but sadly like all good maccies items, it's limited edition so you'll have to be quick to get your hands on one to try. The latest addition to the Saver Menu has gone down well with fans, and is part of the wider menu that has launched. In its current state, the Saver Menu includes:

  • Hamburger: £1.19
  • Cheeseburger: £1.39
  • Double Cheeseburger: £2.29
  • Mayo Chicken: £1.39
  • Small Fries: £1.19
  • Mini Core McFlurry: £1.29
  • Chilli Double Cheeseburger: £2.49
  • Small Milkshake: £1.99
  • Small Drinks: £1.19
  • Americano: £1.39
  • White Coffee: £1.39

The chain has also introduced a £5 meal deal allowing people to choose from two different burgers and chicken nuggets - with a chosen medium drink and fries - debuted earlier this month. A meal like this would usually cost £7.36, meaning the new deal lets people save a not insignificant £2.36
