Most Brits prefer staying in over going out for night - but waste lots of time squabbling

Polling by telecom company EE has revealed that two thirds of British homes would prefer to stay in watching the telly than head out for a night on the town

Two thirds of British households are choosing nights on the sofa in front of the telly over going out.

New research has found 65% would prefer an evening watching their favourite TV shows and films, rather than hitting the town.

And the polling by telecoms firm EE also found the average household has five streaming services.

The research also found the average UK family has 18 telly-related arguments a week, typically lasting 8.5 minutes.

This means they are spending two-and-a-half hours a week squabbling over what to watch and when – enough to watch a movie or entire soap omnibus.

More than half of Brits value the sofa as the most important thing for their TV viewing, ahead of telly screen size and have a high-quality screen.

The poll was commissioned by EE to promote its new show The Search. It has teamed up with Killing Eve writers, Henrietta and Jessica Ashworth for the TV mini-drama, available on EE TV and YouTube.
