Saoirse Ronan stunned fans as she revealed she missed out on two huge Hollywood movie roles.

The 30-year-old Irish actress, who shot to fame as the precocious Briony in 2007’s Atonement, appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Thursday to discuss her latest film The Outrun, which is earning her rave reviews. However, she discussed the big parts she missed out on over the years, and told the stunned studio audience she should have been in last year’s massive summer blockbuster Barbie.

Saoirse worked with Barbie director Greta Gerwig on the critically acclaimed films Lady Bird and Little Women, and Jimmy asked if she would be teaming up with the filmmaker for the reported remake of The Chronicles of Narnia. “There isn't known truth to it. She hasn't asked me yet. She's writing it,” she explained.

“We have a kind of relationship where I just sort of go to her and I say, ‘So I'll be in this, just so you know.’ And she takes some time to think about it and goes, ‘Okay.’ She honestly hasn't asked me about Narnia. I think she's so kind of wrapped up in writing it right now,” Saoirse added.

However, she did reveal that she was supposed to be in scenes with Kate McKinnon in the billion-dollar Barbie movie, but her part was dropped due to scheduling conflicts. “But I was supposed to be in Barbie. I was going to be a weird Barbie, obviously,” she laughed. “Yeah, it was gonna be me and Kate being weird for 20 minutes,” she said, Saoirse explained that she missed out on the role due to filming The Outrun, and managed to surprise the studio audience again when she revealed her Little Women star, Timothee Chalamet was also supposed to be in Barbie as a “weird Ken.”

The Little Women star missed out on playing Luna Lovegood, as the role was handed to Evanna Lynch

The Oscar-nominated actress was grilled by Jimmy over other roles she’s missed out on, and she confessed she had been overlooked for the part of Luna Lovegood in the Harry Potter franchise. “I think the one that stayed with me over the years... I had gone up for Luna Lovegood in Harry Potter,” Saoirse lamented. The role eventually went to Evanna Lynch, who portrayed the kooky Hogwarts student in four films, but Saoirse was still upset she missed out.

“I got to read out a saying that was going to be in Harry Potter and was the coolest thing ever. It was the Irish character. They got everyone Irish in. Half of Ireland come and auditioned,' she quipped, before adding that she didn’t get the part because she was “too young”.
