‘I found the perfect sparkly denim co-ords for nailing casual glam at Christmas parties'

With festive party season on its way we’re on the lookout for the perfect pieces to nail casual glam – and these rhinestone denim co-ords are the perfect way to do it

by · The Mirror

It’s no secret that as the festive season ramps up, we’re inundated with events and parties to go to. Although some may require all-out formal wear, for the most part we need something that balances a laid-back look with some added Christmas sparkle, and this year I’ve found the perfect way to nail the look – denim co-ords.

But not just any denim co-ords; rhinestone-covered, bejewelled, sparkly denim co-ords. They’re the perfect way to bring some glamour and glitz to a more casual vibe, and you can easily accessorise them and style them in different ways to suit the event. Not to mention, you can mix and match them with plenty of other things in your wardrobe to give yourself multiple outfit options – always a bonus.

In my pursuit of the perfect pieces for this look, I tracked down two different co-ords that fit the bill; one from Warehouse, and one from Simply Be. As someone on the petite side of things with curves – I’m 5’4” and a size 14 – I was keen to find things that would fit my figure without accentuating the bits I’m self conscious about, particularly as denim can sometimes be a little, shall we say, unforgiving.

Simply Be X Twisted Wunder Co-ord

Diamante Shacket, £59, and Diamante Wide Leg Jeans, £59

First up on my list is Simply Be’s collab with Twisted Wunder, which features an oversized denim shacket and matching wide leg jeans , both with a diamond-shaped pattern made entirely from rhinestones. Both pieces come in sizes 10-32 and are made from a stiff, no-stretch denim which means they hold their shape and hang really nicely. I opted for my usual size, a 14, in both, and was glad I did as they fit perfectly.

If you’re worried about the lack of stretch in the jeans in particular, don’t be. They have a small elasticated section at the back which gives you some added stretch, which instantly made them a big hit in my eyes, particularly if you know you’ll be doing a lot of eating and drinking (that’s what Christas is all about, after all). As someone with larger hips but a smaller waist, this little elasticated panel also eradicates that dreaded waistband gape that I often get when trying to find jeans that fit – an all round winner. The wide leg fit is also flattering, and although I found them a little long when I’m wearing flats, with heels or some platform boots they were the perfect length.

The shacket is also just the right amount of oversized, with a straight fit that skims over everything and still looks flattering. It truly lives up to its name, too, as you can easily wear it buttoned up as a shirt or leave it open with a top underneath for a glitzy outer layer. My only gripe is that I found some of the gems did come off as soon as I tried it on, so I’m not sure how long they would last with some enthusiastic dancing.

Hannah Cooper-Dommett X Warehouse Co-ord

Denim Hotfix Straight Leg Jeans, was £69 now £58.65, and Denim All Over Hotfix Button Waistcoat, was £55 now £49.50

As soon as Hannah Cooper-Dommett’s collab with Warehouse launched I knew this bejewlled denim co-ord was going to become a wardrobe staple. However, as my figure could not be more opposite to Hannah’s tall and lean model stature I was a little nervous that they wouldn’t look nearly as good on me as they did on her. Thankfully, I couldn’t have been more wrong.

The proportions of both pieces are amazing, with the wide leg jeans being just the right amount of high waisted and the waistcoat’s cropped length landing exactly at the waistband of the jeans – they almost look like a jumpsuit from a distance. As with the Simply Be set there’s next to no stretch in them, which is fantastic for smoothing and holding in your shape. The waistcoat does have a slight boxy fit that gives you some room for moving without feeling too skin-tight, although I did find the buttons a little stiff to fasten, which I’m hoping will get better the more they’re used.

The jeans have a slightly more fitted look on my hips than they do on Hannah’s model shots, but given my shape that’s usually a given with any jeans. I will say that they were a little on the small side, so if you’re between sizes I would go up a size to give yourself a little extra wiggle room. The rhinestones cover both the front and back of each piece, which is a nice extra touch as most brands only apply them to the front. The darker wash of denim also makes it look very chic and grown up – plus you can get both pieces in black if you prefer a more neutral colour.

Both co-ords can be easily worn with everything from trainers and some gold jewellery for daytime events to stilettos or platforms and some glitzy accessories for evening parties - and they'll definitely be working hard in my wardrobe this festive season.
