Disturbing Trash Humpers movie slammed by horrified viewers as “impossible to recommend”.

The bleak comedy film was released in 2009 and was written and directed by Harmony Korine, who documents the fictional lives of a group of elderly people who travel around Nashville, Tennessee, getting sexual pleasure from rubbish bins. The description on the movie website IMDb reads: “Trash Humpers follows a small group of elderly ‘peeping toms’ through the shadows and margins of an unfamiliar world,” and viewers have been left gobsmacked by their antics.

The group of elderly people, who travel around the city stealing and occasionally committing murder, are described as “true sociopaths, the likes of which have never been seen before”, and queasy viewers are subjected to scenes in which the group have sex with trash. Fans are rediscovering the unusual and bizarre film, with one calling it “the craziest they've ever watched”.

One user on Instagram, @cinematologist_, shared a post with clips from the movie and wrote: “This insane film, which some don’t even consider a film, is impossible to recommend, so watch at your own risk. Those who have seen Trash Humpers (2009) know what I’m talking about,” alongside a laughing face emoji. “I think she made this one just to see if he could get away with it,” one fan commented, as another chimed in: “Literally the worst film I’ve ever watched.”

Another Trash Humpers fan called it an “insane masterpiece”, while others issued warnings to prospective viewers. “You have to just watch with either the sound off or play music over it. It is the only way. The noises they make become intolerable otherwise,” as another agreed: “Definitely the craziest thing I’ve ever watched ‘Make it, make it, don’t fake it’.”

Another fan commented on the post with glowing praise for director and writer Harmony. “Trash Humpers is disturbing, unique in how it was made, the locations he used are fascinating and the people he got on camera are unforgettable and disturbing. I imagine it’s like the nightmares of a meth head. The last scene disturbed me and made me question everything I had seen leading up to it,” they wrote.

Fans on Twitter raved about seeing it at the cinema when it was first released, with some calling it one of the best movies they’d seen. “Trash Humpers rules. One of the best theatre experiences of my life. I saw a man in the theatre mentally destroyed by that movie,” one recalled, as another added: “first and only movie I've considered walking out of.”

“Definitely the movie I’m proudest to say I saw in theatres during its original run lol,” one quipped, while another fan chimed in: “Sorry if you didn’t like Trash Humpers it must be awful not thinking about yourself in alternate timelines with your best friends humping trash, beating up tv sets, pounding 40s and destroying baby dolls every waking moment of every day.”
