Vanessa Feltz reveals how Ruth Langsford is REALLY coping with Eamonn Holmes split

Ruth Langsford split from Eamonn Holmes in May - but while he publicly moves on with his new girlfriend, pal Vanessa Feltz says Ruth is taking a different approach

Vanessa Feltz has revealed how close pal Ruth Langsford is really coping with her split from husband Eamonn Holmes.

Last year Ruth said her ‘heart broke’ for Vanessa, 62, when it emerged her fiancé Ben Ofoedu had been cheating on her. So when Ruth’s 14-year marriage to Eamonn broke down earlier this year, it was time for now single Vanessa to provide a shoulder to cry on.

Though the pair only wed in 2010, Ruth and Eamonn were actually together for 27 years and share a 22-year-old son called Jack. Neither have publicly revealed the reason for their shock split in May and their marriage was thought to be one of the strongest in showbusiness.

So how is Ruth dealing with this bombshell? Pal Vanessa told The Sun Ruth is taking a more ‘private’ approach. She said: “Of course, she’s my actual friend in real life. I’ve been in contact, but I certainly respect her and admire her dignity, and her silence over this. I respect her desire, quite rightly, to keep this, as you know, from her perspective, dignified, quiet, and just deal with it on her own privately.”

The Mirror exclusively revealed how Loose Women star Ruth was left ‘hurt’ after discovering Eamonn had been secretly messaging another woman. It is believed this woman is Eamonn’s new girlfriend, 42-year-old relationship counsellor Katie Alexander.

One pal said at the time: “Ruth was hurt when she learned about Eamonn’s friendship with another woman but she is strong and she will be back soon with a smile on her face, putting her best foot forward, as she always does.” On the prospect of a reconciliation, the friend said there was ‘no chance whatsoever.’

Ruth was said to be ‘deeply upset’ over suggestions she walked away from their marriage because of Eamonn’s recent health woes. He now uses a wheelchair and has admitted he ‘can’t look after himself’ after back surgery and a broken shoulder after a fall down the stairs of their Surrey home, which he has now moved out of.

The pal said: “The thing that deeply upsets and frustrates her is the notion that she’s ditching him because of his ongoing health issues. That is not true. She’s always been there for him. But she has struggled with the knowledge that he’s not always been honest with her.”

And while Ruth is said to be ready to “date again”, Eamonn has very publicly moved on with new girlfriend Katie – with the pair being pictured on a string of outings together in the past few months. Though Katie’s pals are at pains to point out their friendship only turned romantic after his marriage to Ruth was over.

However, just four months after Eamonn and Ruth announced their split, Katie is reportedly calling him her ‘soulmate’ and is said to be ‘smitten’ with her new love. A source told Heat Magazine: "Katie is telling everyone that she's totally smitten and in love. They've known each other for nine years, so this isn't a fly-by-night relationship - she's in it for the long haul."
