A search is underway for a British man who mysteriously vanished at an airport in Majorca - moments before he was due to fly back to the UK.

The Coventry City supporter, known only as Vernon, failed to catch his flight at Palma Airport on Sunday evening and has not been seen of heard from since. Pals say they are “worried sick” and have described what has happened as “completely out of character.” Vernon was last seen wearing a black Coventry City top and black shorts, and was carrying a blue sports bag.

An appeal for information on his whereabouts is now being shared on expat social media platforms in Majorca. Charlie Canterbury, who lives in Coventry, first went public with the news of Vernon’s disappearance on Monday night before later repeating her appeal alongside photos of him.

She said: “Last night I put the same post up and someone thought they had seen him and he was safe. However he is still missing as still no contact or sightings!! Please has anyone seen this man around Palma Airport/Magaluf? We last spoke to him at 7:30pm Sunday when he said he was at the airport to get his flight home.

“He hasn’t returned home. No-one here has spoken to him or seen him. He has friends still in Magaluf who are returning home tonight and they haven’t seen or spoken to him and we have reported him missing to the Spanish police.

"His name is Vern (Vernon). This is really out of his character for him and as you can imagine we are all worried sick and just want to know he is safe and well. Please if anyone has seen him could you contact me. He was last seen wearing the new black Coventry City top and black shorts and he should also have a blue sports bag with him.”

Wellwishers have responded with messages of support, with one saying: “Really hope and prey he’s found safe and well soon. You must be going out of your minds.” Another wrote on social media: “I’ll pray that he will be home safe and well soon.”

Meanwhile locals helping to search for him say hospitals in Majorca have been tried. There have been no confirmed sightings of him since he was last spoken to on Sunday, and a Facebook post claiming he had been found was dismissed as “false” earlier today.

One well-wisher said: “He is not found. Friends are searching now and police are aware. There is no official update and all family and friends are very concerned for his safety and wellbeing.”

Spanish police have been approached for a comment.
