'I'm a fit gran – trolls tell me not to wear baggy clothes as they hide my body'

Jacqueline Hooton, 61, is known for sharing health and fitness advice online, but recently she said she receives a lot of comments about the types of clothes she wears

When it comes to fashion, we all like different things.

After all, we're all unique with varying likes and qualities - so it's always annoying when people try and tell you what to wear. Jacqueline Hooton, 61, from West Sussex, can lift double her body weight and encourages other women to build their strength too.

Despite having osteoarthritis, the personal trainer is on a mission to prove you can look amazing at any age if you commit to putting the work in, and she's known for sharing fitness advice online. Recently though, she turned her attention to fashion for a very important reason.

In a candid Instagram post, she revealed that people sometimes try and tell her what to wear. More specifically, they want her to ditch her baggier clothes. One of the comments she recently received from someone about a dress she wore was: "It doesn't show off your figure". But, in her opinion, her outfits don't serve this purpose.

To prove her point, she slipped back into the patterned dress, and admitted it's not the first time someone has made this kind of remark. She wants to know why people think women are "obliged" to make fashion choices based on what their bodies look like.

The mum said: "We are not obliged to choose clothing based on whether it shows off or flatters our figure. Neither do we have to choose clothes that make our legs look longer, cover our wobbly bits, accentuate our curves or give a slim silhouette.

"We can also choose clothes because they are practical, fun, vibrant, make us feel good and 101 other reasons. This dress is cozy, comfortable and colourful - it says log fires, countryside walks, lazy Sunday lunches and Autumn. And I love it."

The post clearly struck a chord with many, as more than 2,000 people have liked it. Lots of people were keen to comment too, and some even shared their own fashion experiences.

One person said: "I love my glittery pink bomber jacket that I made. It brightens my day and people have told me it brightens theirs too. I wear it to walk my dog or go grocery shopping."

A second replied: "I'm all about comfort dressing and the freedom to wear whatever the hell you like. I love your dress, especially the colours, and you look fabulous in it."

A third also chimed in with: "Yes, it's like dressing for yourself instead of dressing for others. You're the only person that needs to be happy with your body and your clothing."
