Breakfast is hailed as the most important meal of the day, and while many opt for a full English or a bowl of wholesome cereal, a recent survey has uncovered that some Brits have rather peculiar breakfast preferences.

Fancy drizzling curry sauce on your morning porridge? Or how about slathering chocolate spread and brie on your toast? According to a poll conducted by Hilton, which surveyed 2,000 individuals, it turns out that Brits are not shy when it comes to experimenting with bizarre taste combinations.

Imagine sinking your teeth into a bacon sandwich with a smear of peanut butter, or scrambling eggs with a side of fruit. Some adventurous souls even spoon baked beans onto their croissants, while others believe wrapping a banana in bacon is the epitome of normalcy.

When asked about their go-to breakfast choice beyond the usual suspects like cereals, toast, or a classic fry-up, the study revealed that a whopping 51 percent of participants enjoy dabbling in "new and adventurous" flavour pairings, especially when staying at a hotel.

The top alternative breakfast dishes that tickled British taste buds included curry sauce with porridge, a banana wrapped in bacon, and Nutella with brie on toast. Not far behind were combinations like a bacon butty with peanut butter, fruit mixed into scrambled eggs, croissants with a dollop of baked beans, sausage and orange skewered together, and the sweet and savoury duo of honey with cheese on toast.

Joanne Hanson, 44, from Pinner, northwest London, has voiced her bewilderment at the quirky breakfast choices some people make. She commented: "I know people have weird tastes, but what is wrong with a bowl of corn flakes or a bit of toast? Who are these people who wake up in the morning and decide to pour curry sauce on their porridge or wrap a banana in bacon? These people need heads examined... it must be a cry for help."

A Hilton spokesperson said: "Our study found that 51 percent of Brits are more experimental with their morning meals when staying at a hotel. This hunger for sweet and savoury has led some Brits to bring unorthodox creations to the breakfast table. Among them include curry porridge, chocolate spread with brie on toast and bacon-wrapped bananas. These are just some of the more unusual breakfast food combos we discovered."

Hilton is looking to cater to this creative breakfast trend by introducing an inventive range of waffles, featuring flavour combinations like black pudding and bacon, tomato and mushroom, and sausage and orange. In a similar vein, another survey by Rainbow Riches Casino highlighted the unique British penchant for hearty meals, noting that some individuals favor a full roast with gravy to start their day.

The poll revealed that a breakfast pizza (pizza with full English toppings) was the most popular choice, with 38 percent of respondents favouring it. The survey also found that about one in 20 would love to eat Yorkshire puddings with their cooked breakfast and three per cent of UK adults would even pour gravy onto their breakfast if given the option.

Additionally, another three percent would add items to their fry-up including tomato soup, spam, tofu, carrots and hummus. Some unusual choices included fried pork belly and sweet potato sandwiches with a spicy onion relish (16 per cent), or spicy fish and pork with rice (15 per cent), also known as Kedgeree, a traditional English breakfast inspired by the Indian dish Khichri.
