Long-running reality show Big Brother has provided viewers with no shortage of dramatic moments and fans are buckling up as a brand new set of contestants get ready to enter the famous house.

A new series of the hit show returns to ITV2 and ITVX on Sunday (October 6) with the action kicking off from 9pm. AJ Odudu and Will Best will return as hosts.

Ahead of the new season, the pair opened up about their stand-out moments from the last series, with Will revealing the moment that left him in "floods of tears". It was a scene that even the Big Brother Twitter/X account referred to as "the most shocking eviction ever", and fans were in agreement, branding it "brutal" and "vile" at the time.

In the scene from the 2023 series, contestants were receiving their letters from home. Yinrun Huang - who ultimately placed fourth - was selected to read out the letter for fellow contestant, Doctor Matty.

Matty could be seen smiling and becoming visibly emotional as Yinrun read out the sweet words. But in a cruel twist, it transpired the letter was not written by a family or friend at all.

Instead, it had been written by Big Brother and was in fact an eviction notice. Matty's fellow housemates were open mouthed as it dawned on them what had just happened, while Matty was left in shock. The reveal meant Doctor Matty became the eleventh housemate to leave, just missing out on the show's live final.

Recounting the scene, host Will said he had thought the moment would have earned the show an award. "Matty’s eviction - I was in floods of tears," he confessed. "I thought they did that so well, the music, the way the letter was written. I absolutely loved it. I thought that was going to win us a BAFTA!".

It made for dramatic viewing, with viewers flocking to social media to share their thoughts on what happened. The scene proved divisive, as one fan wrote: "I really don’t like Matty and never been a fan but that is the most vile thing I’ve ever seen on @bbuk. Horrible." Another called it "brutal", while another viewer added: "Sorry that's horrible! I hope that you are ok! Nah, I don't like that at all."

Others enjoyed the drama, with one complaining only that it wasn't live. "Great way of doing the surprise," they gushed, "but it should have been live." Another added: "Brutal! I'm obsessed."
