The Voice UK's LeAnn Rimes sued her own dad for £5million in bitter battle

LeAnn Rimes, who is a judge on ITV's The Voice UK, has been embroiled in a number of scandals throughout her life - including suing her own dad for millions of pounds

LeAnn Rimes has had her fair share of controversies. The US star recently joined The Voice UK as a coach, following the departure of Olly Murs and Anne-Marie – alongside fellow newbies Tom Fletcher and Danny Jones from McFly. However, many might not know that the country singer, who was recently moved to tears by a contestant's heartfelt performance, has been involved in several scandals over the years, reports OK!.

She's been happily wedded to Eddie Cibrian for 13 years, despite their relationship beginning amidst scandal. Both were already hitched when they met - LeAnn to backup dancer Dean Sheremet and Eddie to TV celeb Brandi Glanville. Their paths first crossed while shooting a Lifetime movie, Northern Lights, in 2009, which ignited an affair. But this wasn't LeAnn's first public scandal.

She was previously tangled up in a dramatic legal dispute with her father Wilbur, accusing him of swindling her out of earnings while she was still underage. LeAnn shot to stardom at the tender age of 13 after releasing her massively popular single Blue, with her career managed by her dad Wilbur and mum Belinda. A year later, her parents split up.

In 2000, when Rimes was just 17, MTV reported that she was suing her father and former manager for a whopping $7 million (£5 million). It was also noted that it was Rimes' mother who filed the lawsuit, as the singer was still a minor at the time. Before the dust settled, Wilbur hit back with a countersuit, pointing fingers at LeAnn's lavish spending, alleging that she had an issue with splurging. The country star later opened up: "I was being called a spoiled brat by some people. But, you know, people don't know me."

In 2002, the legal drama concluded with a settlement, with Wilbur expressing relief at the time: "It is difficult to express just how happy I am that all of the legal troubles between my daughter and I are over." Reflecting on the tumultuous times with ABC News in 2005, LeAnn shared: "I've never hated my dad. I just wanted a dad. I guess I just really disliked where he was in my life. I just wanted him to be my father."

The father-daughter duo mended fences in time for Rimes' nuptials to her first hubby Dean Sheremet, with Wilbur having the honour of walking LeAnn down the aisle. Meanwhile, LeAnn has been stealing hearts nationwide, showcasing her seasoned expertise as she takes on the role of mentor on ITV's The Voice UK.

Off-screen, the 41 year old songstress is blissfully wed to Eddie, celebrating 13 years of marriage. Before Eddie came into the picture, LeAnn's heart belonged to dancer Dean. She's candidly discussed her split from Dean, even delving into how the emotional turmoil affected her weight during that period.
