Strictly Come Dancing's Janette Manrara admits 'snapping' at Aljaz after job decision

Strictly Come Dancing star Janette Manrara admitted she was “snappy” at husband Alijaz Škorjanec after admitting she was worried about burn out.

The 40-year-old dancer has recently returned for the latest series of It Takes Two - the Strictly companion show - and shares one-year-old daughter Lyra Rose with Alijaz. She has also recently penned her own book.

But Janette revealed she was starting to feel as though she was “doing too much”, which led to her turning down a job. The candid admission came after Monday Mile podcast host Aimee Fuller asked if there was ever a moment she thinks “I’m knackered, I don’t know how I’m going to get through this”.

Janette responded: “It happened recently actually, Aljaz noticed I was being a little snappy with him. Only to him, because I love him more than anyone.

“He noticed I was being a bit on-edge and he asked me ‘are you okay?’ Just that question, we don’t ask it enough to each other, and like genuinely ask it, not just like ‘hey, you alright, you okay’ but like really putting your hand on someone and saying ‘are you okay’ and he did.

“And I was really honest with him and said ‘I think I am trying to do too much and I need to say no now’. So there was a job that came in, literally that same day, and I was thinking about whether or not to do it, and when I sat back and listened to my body and brain, I thought I’m going to burn myself out and that’s not good either.”

Janette said that was the moment she knew she had to take time out and rest. She was also concerned that being constantly tired would mean she wasn’t the best mum to Lyra.

She added: “Knowing when you get to that point and you need to say no is important. I don’t think I’m Superwoman, I can’t do it all if I don’t rest. And most importantly, I’m not going to be a good mother to Lyra if I’m overworked and overtired. I already don’t sleep with her.”

Janette and fellow professional dancer Alijaz announced their engagement in 2015, marrying a year two years later. She was a professional dancer on the hit BBC show until series 19, when she started to star on It Takes Two alongside first Rylan Clark and later Fleur East.
