Strictly Come Dancing star Wynne Evans has said he is 'absolutely heartbroken' at the response to his and Katya Jones' 'inside joke' which quickly spread across social media.

The pair apologised in a video on social media on Saturday night (October 12) after a clip showing the moment Katya removed Wynne's hand from her waist was widely shared amongst viewers following the BBC One dance contest's latest live show.

A second moment between the pair, as they stood in the 'Clauditorium' alongside their fellow stars, also showed Celebrity MasterChef winner Wynne appearing to attempt to give her two high-fives, only for her to turn around and leave him hanging while looking unimpressed.

Professional dancer Katya has already dismissed suggestions she was made to feel "uncomfortable or offended" as "complete nonsense" after it was reported the pair were checked on by a welfare team, with the PA news agency understanding that no further action had been planned.

Now, Wynne has appeared on his radio show with BBC Wales as usual on Monday morning (October 14) where he spoke to Dot Davies and James Williams, hosts of Radio Wales Breakfast, and admitted he was "heartbroken" by the comments being made about him and inissted he and Katya were "really good friends".

Speaking ahead of his radio show on BBC Radio Wales, he said: "Basically, firstly, I want to say I'm absolutely heartbroken about the things that are being said about me in the past day. It's not nice to live in that time.

"Katya and I are really really close and we're really good friends and on Saturday night, we made a stupid joke that went wrong. We thought it was really funny. It has been totally misinterpreted."

Referencing Katya's statement, he apologised if anyone had felt offended by their joke. "Everything is on Katya's socials, she's explained she doesn't feel uncomfortable and we have a great friendship," he said.

"I'm sorry if anybody was offended by it. It was a joke. There's no real story really. I feel weird apologising as I don't feel like I've done anything. I misjudged it. If there's a joke, I'm usually at the centre of it. That's basically it and now I just want to keep dancing."

Later, during his own radio show, Wynne sounded emotional as he thanked everyone for their 'lovely messages'. He said: "You are absolutely gorgeous in every shape and form and I needed those today. Thank you."
