Emmerdale seems to be hinting at a fatal twist for soap legend Kim Tate.

The character, portrayed by Claire King, first graced the famous Dales in 1989. Since then, it's safe to say that Kim has become one of the show's most iconic characters.

Throughout her tenure on the soap, she has been embroiled in some of its most significant storylines. From affairs to even staging her own death, her stint in the Dales has been anything but drama-free.

Currently, in the soap, Kim is bracing for more drama, following the shocking dissolution of her marriage to Will Taylor (Dean Andrews). Fans will remember that Kim was unveiled as his blackmailer last week, following his passionate night with ex-wife Rose (Christine Tremarco).

Kim executed a dramatic ploy to exact revenge on Will. After luring him to the woods, she pushed him into an empty grave, revealing herself as his blackmailer, reports Leeds Live. Kim has since demanded a divorce from Will - but he is hellbent on ruining Kim. Declaring war on his former wife, Will is resolved to claim half of Kim's fortune - despite their pre-nuptial agreement.

Naturally, Kim has declared war too, fighting for her assets - but fans now fear things are going to take a deadly turn. In Tuesday's episode (September 24) Will was left seething after discovering Kim had slept with her financial advisor Peter.

In an intense exchange at Home Farm, an infuriated Will asserted his claim to the property and Kim's finances, prompting Kim's cryptic response: "Over my dead body". To this, Will retorted, "That can be arranged," hinting he might go as far as murdering her in a dramatic twist.

Viewers were quick to catch the ominous undertone, with one Emmerdale fan posting on the show's Facebook page: "Did anyone else hear Will threaten to kill Kim?" This sparked other responses, with another adding: "I did! Maybe it's the next big storyline a Kim Tate whodunnit." A third chimed in, expressing their hopes against such a dark turn of events: "I really hope not, but who knows!"

Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 and ITVX at 7.30pm
