Dr Punam Krishan and Gorka Marquez have revealed a secret behind their latest Strictly Come Dancing performance as they received an emotional outpouring.

It was another epic weekend in the world of the BBC One dance contest on Saturday night (October 5) as week three of this year's competition became the annual Movie Week special.

Just 13 of the 14 remaining couples performed during the live show as, at the eleventh hour, DIY SOS star Nick Knowles and his dance partner Luba Mushtuk were forced to pull out of the show this weekend after Nick suffered an injury on Friday (October 4).

And among the couples were Morning Live's Dr Punam and Spanish dancer Gorka who performed the first couple’s choice of the show’s 20th-anniversary series to Bole Chudiyan from the Bollywood film Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham which saw them come joint second in the leaderboard, scoring 33.

The performance quickly saw Strictly viewers flock to social media to heap praise of Punam and Gorka's performance and congratulate them for bringing Bollywood to the hit dance show as its never been done before.

Alongside a picture of her and Gorka during rehearsals, Punam shared her first thoughts on Sunday (October 6) about the experience and revealed there was some help behind their performance, with Strictly's pros often bringing in other experts to help them choreograph specialist routines.

Punam said: "There is so much to say about last night but I need to take a beat to soak it all in because I’m still in the most surreal space. However, I wanted to take a moment to share with you the magicians who created this dance routine and taught myself and @gorka_marquez it.

"To do justice to Bollywood dancing and execute it with the respect and love it deserves, we had the honour of the incredibly talented @prabzov and @thatdosacat teaching us. They created this beautiful routine and it was lovely to see how gracefully Gorka embraced it as this is not a dance form he is familiar with. What was gorgeous to watch was how all 3 choreographers came together and collaborated to create what you all watched on @bbcstrictly last night."

Gorka also shared his thanks as he reshared the post to his own Instagram Story and said: "Huge THANK YOU to these two for their choreography this week @prabzov @thatdosacat."

Meanwhile, Punam has since shared more thoughts on her performance. Alongside pictures of herself and Gorka in all their incredible Bollywood glory, the pracitsing GP shared: "'You can’t be what you can’t see.' This dance was more than just a dance, this was a moment that was layers deep, and I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to bring a piece of my culture & my story to you.

"Last night as I lay on the Strictly dance floor, waiting to start my dance, I felt the presence of my late grandfather. I’ve got goosebumps as I write this but I could feel he was there watching over me, bursting with pride. I could feel how proud my parents were and when I closed my eyes, I was transported to 4 year old me who would always dream of watching an Indian girl, like her, on the telly one day.

"I would dream to see my culture - not the westernised version of my culture - but a respectful & true representation of it, in mainstream media. As a child, you want to see yourself on different platforms so you can truly reach for the stars, dream big & not limit yourself. When you don’t see it, you end up believing that you could never ever belong there. You start to limit your own potential.

"My parents came here with nothing, but they worked so hard to give us the world. However their greatest fear was always that we would lose our connection to our heritage and culture. Yesterday I performed a traditional song from the iconic Bollywood film, Kabhi Khushi Khabhie Gham. This was a first in @bbcstrictly history! It wasn’t a westernised or remixed version to appeal more to a non-asian audience, but was instead a true representation of Bollywood music & dancing. It felt so special, a 360 moment."

She added: "This Glasgow girl danced her wee Bollywood heart out on that floor. I had the honour of doing this with my wonderful partner @gorka_marquez who embraced it all with such love and respect. Your outpouring of love & support since has meant the world to me. Thank you for voting for us and getting us through to week 4. I hope this dance sparked some joy for you, and piqued an interest in Indian music and dance. Go watch the film - it’s amazing."
