BBC Strictly Come Dancing fans say 'give the guy a break' after announcement

by · Manchester Evening News

Strictly Come Dancing fans have asked for one star to be 'given a break' after the latest announcement form the show's team. It has been revealed which dances the 14 remaining couples will be doing this weekend as which songs they'll be to as Movie Week arrives in the ballroom.

It was an emotional time in the hit dance show last weekend as the first dance-off and elimination of the series took place. The voting lines opening for the first time in this series meant that the exit was looming and the dance-off took place against Tom Dean and Nadiya Bychkova and Toyah Wilcox and Neil Jones.

Both couples performed their routines from Saturday night (September 28) again, with Tom and Nadiya performing their Cha Cha to Boogie Wonderland by Earth, Wind & Fire before singer Toyah and Neil performed their Jive to Nutbush City Limits by Ike & Tina Turner.

After both couples danced a second time, the judges delivered their verdicts: Craig Revel Horwood chose to save Toyah and Neil, Motsi Mabuse chose to save Toyah and Neil and Anton Du Beke chose to save Tom and Nadiya.

With two votes for Toyah and Neil, and one vote for Tom and Nadiya, Head Judge Shirley Ballas had the deciding vote and chose to save Toyah and Neil.

It's now been confirmed that the remaining 14 couples will take to the dancefloor next week in a spectacular Movie Week special when Strictly returns on Saturday (October 5) before the latest results show follows on Sunday (October 6).

As the couples continue training for their next live performance, what dances they'll be doing and what songs they'll be dancing to were revealed. Among the films set to feature in the ballroom this weekend are Harry Potter, Paddington 2 and Mrs Doubtfire.

The first special week of Strictly 2024 will see comedian Chris McCausland and Dianne Buswell will jive to the Wayne’s World Theme, Love Island star Tasha Ghouri and Aljaz Skorjanec will perform a Rumba to What Was I Made For? from the recent Barbie movie and ex-TOWIE star Pete Wicks will be releasing his inner tiger as he and partner Jowita Przysta dance the Samba to the George of the Jungle theme tune.

But it was Paul Merson and Karen Hauer's Cha Cha to The Magnificent Seven Theme that has caused a bit of a stir among fans. @b_3th81 said: "I think Paul needs to do a ballroom. Give the guy a break." @cafej_adore claimed: "He’s the designated joke of the series unfortunately - he could do well with a ballroom dance."

@hannahlouj wrote of Paul: "Give the guy a chance." @kazfarrar74 echoed: "Poor Paul, give the guy a break!!!" Paul himself, however, responded to Strcitly's big reveal: "I'm ready for it…..sort of," alongside the popcorn emoji.
