Miranda Hart gives first glimpse at husband as she admits 'little twist' in wedding surprise

Miranda Hart has given a first 'glimpse' at her new husband after she officially confirmed she's found love and he 'put a ring on it' after opening up about a 'tough' time which saw her diagnosed with a chronic illness.

The comedian and actress, who appeared in her own semi-autobiographical sitcom Miranda, first went public with her ill health in August as she confirmed she was releasing a new book, I Haven’t Been Entirely Honest With You.

Miranda revealed she has put pen to paper to open up about the debilitating illness and how she's coped and hopes that by telling the story of her health struggles in her memoir, which is out on Thursday (October 10), will help others going through tough times.

But as the 51-year-old appeared on The One Show to promote the book's release, Miranda ended up shocking hosts Alex Jones and Alex Scott as she revealed the exciting news that she's tied the knot after it was revealed she write about her mystery husband in the book.

She confirmed that 'someone put a ring on it!' as she swapped her sparkling ring from her write hand to the traditional fourth finger of the left hand.

The giddy TV star explained she found 'her person' at the age of 49 while battling chronic illness. She said: "I'm married, I got married at 51 and it's just so lovely! I'd written Gary for onscreen Miranda and it wasn't until I was 49 that I met my person.

"It's a little undercurrent in the book, I'm not going to reveal how we met because that's a little bit of a twist. He's my best friend, we had the best fun and I'm just thrilled to be a young bride at 51."

Miranda added that she hoped readers of her book will feel hope from her love story. She said: "The fact that I met someone during a pandemic, during chronic illness, when I couldn't get out of bed or out of the house... I really, really wanted to meet someone, I didn't want to do life on my own anymore.

"The fact that I could meet somebody, it's not some some of romcom story but it's hope. Whatever situation you are in, there is always hope, things really do change."

Following the show, Miranda posted a video to X, formerly known as Twitter, in which she could be seen travelling home with her dog on her lap. Reflecting on revealing her news, she said: I've got my best friend to do life with and it's wonderful. And I'm also utterly thrilled to be back in tele land and having a book out. Um so yeah, thanks so much for all your support."

She concluded: "High-five husband. Ho ho. Exclusive, his hand. Bye," she joked. Alongside the clip, Miranda captioned her post: "Thank you for being happy that I am happy. You're very sweet and kind. And how we met is a little reveal in the book I hope you enjoy. X
