BBC Strictly Come Dancing fans spot 'two new dancers' after outcry over professionals 'snub'

by · Manchester Evening News

Some eagle-eyed Strictly Come Dancing fans were left slightly confused as they spotted 'two new dancers' during the latest results show. The latest dance-off and elimination took place following another epic night in the ballroom.

The first special of the BBC One dance contest's new series on Saturday night (October 5) saw the couples channel their inner film stars as they performed routines with songs from the likes of Mrs Doubtfire, George of the Jungle, Harry Potter and Dreamgirls.

The latest live show opened with a group number from the show's professional dancers who transformed into minions from the Despicable Me franchise while Kai Widdrington, who was left without a celebrity dance partner this year, appeared as the film’s villain, Gru, donning a bald head and a prosthetic nose.

Then, on Sunday night (October 6), during the results show, there was a "rom-com inspired" routine performed by the professional dancers which saw Neil Jones take the role of leading man for the dance which is said to be "full of romance, comedy and a few twists".

But it appeared the routine, which was pre-recorded last month alongside the other pro numbers to be used throughout the 2024 series, featured some unfamiliar faces - at least to some of those watching at home.

@annmceneany asked: "2 new male dancers?" @lisap_0210 commented: "Who’s the male dancer in pink top and braces?" @jackie.grant.57 wrote: "Who was dancing with Katya?" @fozofficial added: "Whos the male dancer wearing braces? Pink tee and red trousers #Strictly."

Quick to explain, @jake_kiel_yves shared: "@joshuakeefedancer has worked on Strictly pre Covid as a dancer & choreographer. @jakeleigh__ has been a pro dancer for Blackpool/Musical Weeks for 10 years this year, he also dances in pro dances & helps choreograph some of the routines since 2021. Both have done the Strictly Live Tour in the past too."

It comes after fans were left devastated when three of the show's professional dancers were left without a celebrity partner this year. Kai Widdrington, Lauren Oakley and Carlos Gu aren't competing in the contest but are still very much be part of the series - and the 'Strictly Family' - and will appear in various dancers throughout the current season.
