Christine McGuinness opens up about 'secret resentment' towards ex-husband Paddy

Christine McGuinness, the ex-wife of Paddy McGuinness, has confessed that she "secretly resented him" when he would leave her alone with their children to enjoy "holidays and golfing trips". The couple separated in 2022 but continued to cohabit for the sake of their three autistic children's routines.

In her 2021 autobiography, Christine McGuinness: A Beautiful Nightmare, the 36 year old revealed that Paddy continued his holiday habits in the early years after they had their children. She candidly expressed her feelings about her ex-husband's absences, explaining that while she encouraged him to enjoy his trips, she yearned for a little "getaway" herself.

Christine penned: "For the first five years of having the kids, he carried on having his holidays and golfing trips. I never did, and I didn't have friends to go away with anyway. But I'd always wave him off and say, 'Go and enjoy yourself, have a lovely time'," reports the Liverpool Echo.

"Secretly, I'd resent him so much. He'd come back with the best tan ever and I'd be exhausted after having the children on my own for that time. I'd think, 'God, I wish I could do that and have a little weekend getaway'.

She added: "I wanted that freedom so much, but I just didn't have it. I struggled with the whole life he was living because it was not my life; it was his.

"I was just a wife at home and he had this completely different, separate existence I wasn't part of."

Christine McGuinness, also known from 'The Real Housewives of Cheshire', has recently opened up about the challenges she faced within her marriage, which inspired her to carve out her own space and identity. She candidly admitted that it was a "difficult time" that pushed her to pursue something that was entirely "her own".

Despite some trepidations from those close to her, including explicit concerns from her husband and mother about becoming a stereotype on television, Christine took the leap. Christine recalled in her book that "no one" around her supported her decision to join 'Real Housewives', with voices of doubt echoing around her, especially regarding how she might be perceived as a "stereotypical" Cheshire housewife.

In the same book, she opens up about the struggle to maintain her sense of self when her then-husband landed a gig on 'Take Me Out'. While his career and public exposure soared, Christine found herself slipping into isolation, becoming "more introverted".

Despite Paddy's role where he was surrounded by 30 single women on 'Take Me Out', Christine remained unbothered. As she reflects on this period in her memoir, she notes confidently: "I have to say, I was never really worried about it.

"The show was all very tongue-in-cheek and fun. He stayed professional all the way through it and even though he could be a bit cheeky at times, he was never flirty."
