Coronation Street fans say 'I've found Joel' as actor supported over personal move

by · Manchester Evening News

Coronation Street fans were left saying they had 'found' Joel Deering as the actor who plays him was praised over a personal move. Earlier this year, actor Calum Lill announced in July that he'd be taking part in the Royal British Legion's Survival Challenge 2024.

The challenge is set in a secluded woodland location and those taking part will need to learn key survival skills from fire lighting, and water purification to foraging while also working as a team to build a camp from scratch and attempt to survive five days in the wilderness.

Speaking at the time about his involvement in a video posted on social media, Calum said: "So I'm going to live in a forest for five days and try and survive. Why? I'll tell you.

"The Royal British Legion, who raise money to help veterans, have put on a challenge where you go and live in a forest for five days and survive - build shelters, find food, cook food and get your own water - to raise money for them."

He continued: "So, I'm going to do it at the end of September, while it's getting really cold... It's going to be very cold if this [weather] is anything to go by. I'm going to be living outside, eating worms and slugs! If you could help me by donating and/or sharing it to your story, that'd be amazing. Thank you so much!"

The challenge has since taken place and taking to Instagram on Wednesday (October 2), Calum shared a snippet of what they went through on the challenge. Alongside the post, the soap star wrote: "Please donate if you can to help our Veterans and their families. Lest We Forget.

"I spent four days surviving three Amber weather storm warnings outside in a forest. It was tough, cold, wet and difficult but me and the rest of Team 6 did it all to try and raise vital funds for our veterans. We cooked all our food over a fire. If the rain was too heavy, no fire. We learnt to set snares, filter water, make fire from a spark, build shelters. We stank of smoke, were covered in mud, were soaked through, but it will all be worth it if it helps Veterans. Thank you for your support,"

Calum's fans and followers were quick to share their praise and show their support, with some also mentioning his character's current disappearance from Weatherfield.
