BBC Strictly Come Dancing fans demand 'change it back' as they spot missing element

by · Manchester Evening News

Fans of Strictly Come Dancing have demanded a change after the BBC show seemingly ditched a key element to the opening minutes of each episode.

As the third live show got underway on BBC One on Saturday night, viewers took to social media to raise a complaint about the show's opening.

In previous series, the iconic Strictly Come Dancing theme tune has played as the celebrity contestants are introduced at the start of the show and make their way down the Strictly steps and onto the dancefloor. However, this year, the show appears to have dropped the theme tune for different songs.

This week, as the celebrities entered the ballroom dressed in their film-inspired costumes for Movies Week, they were accompanied by a rendition of Footloose.

Fans are not happy with the change and have demanded that the show bring back the Strictly theme tune for the remainder of the series.

One fan wrote on X: "Another week without the theme song during the walk down… what are we doing?" Another said: "Get the couples walking down to the Strictly theme tune again please!!!! Walking down to Footloose isn’t hitting the same."

A third demanded: "Change back to the strictly theme tune for the entrances!" while another fumed: "NO THEME WALKDOWN AGAIN??"

Another fan commented: "Don’t do this again, just have them wave and play the strictly tune!" One fan even blamed the Strictly Come Dancing band leader for the change, saying: "Three weeks without the strictly theme... dave arch this is somehow your doing."

The opening to Movie Week saw the Strictly Come Dancing professionals transform into minions from the Despicable Me franchise, with Kai Widdrington, who does not have a partner this year, dressing as Gru, the grouchy former supervillain and protagonist of the film series.

DIY SOS star Nick Knowles and his dance partner Luba Mushtuk are not performing this week after Nick suffered a knee injury during rehearsals.
