Kym Marsh's boyfriend shows support as she fights tears on TV over devastating loss

by · Manchester Evening News

Kym Marsh's boyfriend was quick to show her support as she was seen fighting tears on live TV as she discussed a devastating loss. The actress and presenter appeared on BBC Breakfast this week to discuss a breakthrough for many of those who suffer the loss of their children.

Kym went through the devastating loss of baby Archie, with her ex-husband Jamie Lomas, in 2009 at 21 weeks of pregnancy and has now welcomed the news that the Government will extend its baby loss certificate scheme.

It was confirmed in February that those in England who've experienced the loss of a baby before 24 weeks of pregnancy would be able to apply for a certificate to formally recognise their child existed, if the loss occurred from September 2018.

During baby loss awareness week, it was confirmed that scheme will be extend, with certificates now available for any parent who has experienced a loss before 24 weeks, or 28 weeks if the loss occurred before October 1992.

An emotional Kym discussed the news on BBC Breakfast and said: "These certificates mean so much as we've heard already it makes your baby not just a statistic; my Archie was here. I gave birth to him, I held him, he had a funeral, he mattered to all of us. For us all to get nothing that recognised he was here was absolutely heartbreaking as he was a little person and our little person."

Following the loss of Archie, Kym won huge praise for the harrowing Coronation Street storyline in 2017 which saw her character Michelle Connor go through the devastating loss of her baby Ruairi at 23 weeks after suffering a similar heartbreak in real life.

On the scheme itself, Kym said: "We're so delighted, this is a huge win, a huge win for all of us and a huge win for saying goodbye, it's just fantastic."

Following her appearance on the news programme, Kym's partner Samuel Thomas took to social media to show his support as well as publicly praise her for speaking openly about a difficult and personal matter.

“So proud of this amazing woman this morning,” he posted alongside a picture of Kym being interviewed on the breakfast show. “Speaking on @bbcbreakfast about the importance of ‘baby loss’ certificates and being part of the campaign to make these certificates a possibility.”

Ending his post, Samuel, who met Kym earlier this year as they began working on 101 Dalmatians: The Musical together, wrote: "I love you and the amazing thing you’ve helped to achieve," followed by a heart emoji.

Kym and Samuel went public with their romance in July, when Kym took to her Instagram as she called Sam her soulmate. “Sometimes the most unexpected things happen at the most unexpected times. @samuelthomasuk I love you #beautiful #soulmate #loveyou,’” she wrote alongside a picture of them kissing.
