BBC Strictly Come Dancing star 'could win' due to key move with competition from Wynne Evans

by · Manchester Evening News

Wynne Evans is set to be competition for another Strictly Come Dancing contestant who 'could win' the Glitterball trophy this year. The Opera singer and TV star is currently competing in the BBC One dance contest alongside Katya Jones.

The pair have been impressing the judges and the audience so far with their routines, particularly last weekend when Wynne transformed into film icon Mrs Doubtfire, made famous by the late Robin Williams, for the show's Movie Week special.

The 52-year-old donned the famous Mrs Doubtfire costume and danced the cha-cha-cha to James Brown's Papa's Got a Brand New Bag, securing an impressive score of 30 alongside Katya, who channelled Sally Field's character Miranda Hillard.

But now, as their body language has been analysed, while Wynne appears to be a favourite to take the Strictly 2024 crown, he has competition for reality star and podcast host Pete Wicks.

Darren Stanton believes Pete has shown he is ‘capable of anything’, whereas Wynne has ‘something different to offer’ during the competition.

Speaking on behalf of Betfair Casino, Darren said: "Pete Wicks has a very good chance at making the final already. He’s definitely shown he’s capable of anything, and at this stage, that’s very promising. He could potentially win. He and Jowita [Przystał] have a very strong connection and you can see that from the way they communicate is effortless through physical touches, eye contact and general synchronisation."

He added: "Wynne is a strong contender when it comes to winning the competition. He has something different to offer out of everyone else. You’ll notice when he’s receiving feedback, he actively listens, takes everything on board and wants to learn from it. He reminds me of Hamza Yassin [who won in 2022 with Jowita].

"No one expected him to win in the beginning, he was overlooked - but he was so passionate about learning and developing his skills. He’s thrown himself into the process wholeheartedly and is giving everything his best shot."
