Cristiano Ronaldo to Wrexham transfer claim made as Ryan Reynolds prediction emerges

by · Manchester Evening News

Cristiano Ronaldo has been tipped to make the blockbuster transfer to Wrexham. The former Manchester United forward is currently plying his trade at Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr and has scored an impressive 72 times in 79 appearances during his time in the Gulf state.

Ronaldo's contract is set to expire in 2025. That has raised speculation around his future, but he indicated back in August that he wanted to continue playing for Al-Nassr for, perhaps, another 'two to three years'. He told NOW: "I don't know if I will retire soon, in two or three years, but probably I will retire here at Al-Nassr."

Wrexham, meanwhile, have enjoyed a remarkable rise over the past few seasons. They are playing in League One after back-to-back promotions and sit second in the third tier with six wins from their first 10 matches. Co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have transformed the club since taking over in 2020 and adding that touch of Hollywood glamour.

Despite that, the idea of Ronaldo signing for Wrexham does seem far-fetched, but former Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea defender William Gallas could see a potential move happening in the not-so-distant future.

He told Prime Casino: "Anything is possible in football in the modern game. It wouldn't surprise me because money talks and we've seen that nothing is impossible these days."

Gallas added: "Footballers and football clubs are now obsessed with their brands, too, and their sponsors. You can make a lot of money, and not just from your wages at your club. Now, everything is about social media and having millions of followers. Both Wrexham and Cristiano Ronaldo have huge profiles, so why not?

"Cristiano Ronaldo is more than just a footballer. He's a product, and he's also still scoring many goals on the pitch. There will be so many clubs still happy to have him."

Ronaldo, now 39, is bang in form, having scored eight goals in nine appearances for Al-Nassr this campaign. He has been called up for the Portugal squad ahead of two Nations League fixtures during the international break and can still do a job at the highest level - when required - despite his advancing years.
