Gemma Atkinson gives one-word support to Strictly Come Dancing couple - and it's not Gorka and Dr Punam

by · Manchester Evening News

Gemma Atkinson has been seen showing her support for her fiance Gorka Marquez and his celebrity dance partner Dr Punam Krishan in Strictly Come Dancing's latest series.

But it doesn't mean she can't also show her love for other couples in the BBC One dance contest, particularly following her own connection to the show following her own appearance in 2017 where she made it to the final with Aljaz Skorjanec.

And it was Aljaz and his celebrity dance partner Tasha Ghouri whose performance clearly struck a chord with Bury-born Gemma as she responded to a clip of their latest performance on social media.

The latest live show of the BBC One dance contest, which was the annual Movie Week special, once again saw former Love Island star Tasha topping the leaderboard scoring 34 out of 40.

The 26-year-old performed a “moving” rumba with professional partner Aljaz, who has returned to the hit show after a two-year hiatus - to What Was I Made For? by Billie Eilish from the Barbie movie.

Aljaz then took to social media after it was revealed he and Tasha had made it through to week four of Strictly's 20th anniversary series. Alongside pictures from their live performance, the dancer said: "Thank you so much for all the messages, votes, and kindness! Loved performing our Rumba for you all.

"@tashaghouri I get more and more excited every weekend to dance with you! It was a tricky week with this beautiful piece of music, but I am so proud of what you achieved. On to week 4! Time is flying when you’re having fun dancing! Let’s SMASH it partner! @bbcstrictly."

Hits Radio Gemma was quick to respond to the post, writing: "Stunning," while Aljaz's fellow pro dancer Gorka also shared in the comments section: "Was beautiful."

Gemma was also showing her support for Gorka and Punam after they made Strictly history. They performed the first couple’s choice of the show’s 20th-anniversary series to Bole Chudiyan from the Bollywood film Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham which saw them come joint second in the leaderboard, scoring 33.

The performance quickly saw Strictly viewers flock to social media to heap praise of Punam and Gorka's performance and congratulate them for bringing Bollywood to the hit dance show as its never been done before. Responding to a clip of their performance from Strictly's social media team, Gemma posted a string of clapping emojis and simply said: "Amazing!"
